    "ran like a scalded dog"
"It ain't my monkey to feed"
    "still wet behind the ears"
"she's just like a duck--every day is a new day"
and my DH's favorite: "Tis an ill wind that blows no man good fortune" which means regardless of what happens, it will be good for someone.

If you don't straighten up we're gonna have a come to Jesus meetin'. (my grandma when a gang of grand kids were fighting)
I've heard all of those! I always loved the "come to Jesus Meetin'" lol

I just thought of one I've heard here a lot "lower than a snake belly", but it does make sense to me

jcraine-- I think the phrase you mention has the word "daubed" (not dobbed). To daub means to paint. Mud daubers have mud nests. A mud fence daubed with lizards is quite the word picture to describe ugly!
My favorite ugly analogy is "so ugly, it/he would make a freight train take a dirt road".

My mother used to say "The Whole World is going to (someplace) in a hand basket."

This one reminds me of what my dad would say when someone was doing something dangerous while driving (like speeding or passing near a curve). He would say, " Go ahead. (The bad place to go) isn't half full yet." Don't know where he got that saying from or if it was just one he made.

My mom also a southerner (Missouri) had a couple: Better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick and busier than a cat in a gravel pit.

I've also been brought up with the sayings: Dumber than a door-knob, and Dumber than a door-nail.

Actually I use to say that to my 3 kids when they were winy and complaining. If they pushed it enough and got a spanking, they minded after that. Please understand we did sit down and talk about it as I did not want to be mean to my 3 beauties.

Now as a Grandma, I want to say it to my grand kids sometime. Usually I just the parent a look.
    Good thread. Karen

When I was a critical care nurse I lived a time in the South and my of my very nice new friend, during a conversation said, "I didn't know him from Adam's house cat". Wow.
