I had a customer who wanted me to make a small memory quilt from the garments from her wedding. A relative of hers made all the clothes (can you imagine what an undertaking?) so she had all this fabric leftover. I made a 42"x42" wall hanging from the different fabrics. Unfortunately, I no longer have a pic to post because my laptop crashed a few months back and didn't have my pics backed up.

Stunning! I have never heard of this before. Don't know if I would take this challenge.

Now,I know what to with my dress! My mothers dress is a baptism gown with booties and a bib to match.

I have made many Baptism gowns for clients. I never thought of a quilt!

As long as you use a foundation for piecing it should be okay. Those Satins, lace ..ect can be tricky.

i think it is a wonderful idea..it can also be handed down to some lucky person..my suggestion is to make it into a crazy quilt along with other fabrics..use lots of lace, ribbons, sequins..maybe some embroidery.....its not necessary to use the entire dress..just enough for a decent size quilt....enjoy

My friend in Australia makes wedding dress lamps (a white/beige silk) as shade. They're gorgeous, with silk flowers. I had one but sold it as it was a huge dust magnet. She originally cut up her wedding dress to make the lamps!

I've never heard of such a thing, but I've been googling and saw some pictures.
When did this start?
She's in her late 30's and done having kids (3 boys) so she figures no one will ever want to wear her dress in the future.
I guess it's a good idea but it'll break my heart.
We had so much fun and hunted high and low to find that dress, and she was gorgeous in it.
What do you think?
It'll be a VERY expensive quilt, if I do it.
Has anyone here ever made one?
I've sieen some gorgeous christening gowns and coordinating quilts made from weddng dresses. This way it can be used by lots of generaltions and becomes an heirloom. maybe she might consider this.

I have used the fabric from both of my daughters dresses to make their first daughters blessing dress. I can see using the fabric within a quilt, not the entire dress?? As is..or all cut up? Not sure what she wants.

Maybe you could ask her to pick out a pattern (for a block) that she likes and other colors she wants put in it and then go from there?
