Actually, this is on a 5' x 7' area rug that is in front of the longarm. I had my big 2' x 4' ironing board up on the longarm with the iron sitting on it when I tripped over the cord. So it's not great loss of the rug, it's just right there front and center where I see it every time I come in the room. I guess I should be glad that I wasn't barefoot and that it didn't land on my foot! :D

Same happened to me only.....I went down with the iron and fell into a metal basket. Nothing broken, but sure a lot of bruises. I found a large wooden ring and attached it to my ironing board and run the cord through it. Lesson learned.

This happened to carpet in my house, we were leasing it for a couple of years. The renters felt so bad as the carpet was new and the burn was in the center of the room. We called the carpet company and they sent a repair man who cut a piece of carpet from the back of the under- the- stairs closet and fixed it. The repair was invisable! Cost the renters about $100.

Hope you're not in the dog house. I love seeing your work.

Uh oh eddie. Your wife is gonna get you! LOL! Just kidding. Good thing you don't sew in the living room. I also have dropped irons before. It is not fun. I usually just break the iron, not ruin the carpeting.
Cheer up, it is in a sewing room. Hopefully people aren't down there here they can see it.

My little boy did this years ago. He was 'helping' me iron and dropped it off the ironing board. He was so sad, I didn't have the heart to say anything cross to him. We laughed about it for years!
