It's too late to go anywhere. We are under mandatory evacuation ... and that means 95% of the population stays where it is with a chunk of them heading to the bars for hurricane parties. Our windows are boarded up as usual in these situations but with a new innovation -- we have sliding peep holes so we can see outside and know what's crashing around us instead of guessing in the dark. Oil lamps are filled and ready. Lots of comfort food on hand. Flashlights and crank radios are ready. So ... we wait and we pray. I have a book light and some hand sewing and that's about it. Prayers are very much welcome! See you on the other side!

you know, i always sound like the villain, or the voice of doom, but which part of 'MANDATORY' do you long beachers not understand??? god sends you a lot of chances to help yourself, but part of it is up to you! i am terrifically worried and fearful for your predicament. man, i'd be heading in a car going west! please, reconsider! you're too young to die! prayers being fervently and frequently said!!

Hang tight Krystyna. All our prayers are with you. It's very similar to New Orleans. Only, some 250,000 people in New Youk need to move very very quickly. Like when the initial threat became a possibility. That time has come and gone. So everybody who believes in the power of prayer, everyone in the path of Hurricane Sandy needs it now. Stay Safe and Good Luck!!

Krystyna, keep the faith. I understand your feelings. Hopefully this will be over soon....well at least the weather portion but power outages is another story. Well you can also hand piece a quilt by oil lamps and imagine as it
you were living in history!

CQR, you are a darling. We do have lots of places to go if things were normal, but they are not good options for safety and safe travel. Both of my sisters, my nieces and nephews are all in the path of the storm. We stayed with one sister last time who lives further out on Long Island ... and she had more of a mess than we did. My other sister lives in Ipswich, MA right on the river, my aunt (with 18 cats) is in Manhattan, niece in New Jersey, nephews in the boroughs of Queens ... all in bad spots ... and in order to get off our island, which is south of Long Island, all the roads out over the in-between islands are flooded before we are. Then there is the matter of trees crashing down on the parkways as we go through New York City to get wherever we are going -- if the bridges and tunnels aren't already closed. We have flood insurance and it will be what it will be. We took a ride around part of the island and I would guess that most everyone stayed put. But ... when things dry out and get warmer, my dream would be to hop in an RV and visit everyone! And now ... I think I'll curl up under a wee doll quilt and dream of nicer days ahead.
Love and hugs to all ... everyone be safe and Godspeed!
