The gray, green, and white are lovely together.
Some things are much better without a 'pop' - which in some cases comes across more like a big crashing BANG!
Sort of like having a cymbal bang in the middle of a lullabye. Disruptive.
By the way,I am a fan of the color orange. But not in thatquilt.

Girlfriend, I love it. If you change it, please post another picture. My daughter wanted the chevron pattern for her baby quilt also. I did it in graduated shades of blue with white. Even though I don't care for the chevron, it turned out very nice. I would consider making another in that pattern.

My daughter is pregnant and is due in June. She asked that the baby quilt be made in mint green and gray.
I felt that just those colors would be too close in value, so I decided to add orange to make a "pop" of color.
Originally, I had planned to put the orange stripe between the gray stripes on the 4th row down, but ended up making a mistake and putting it in the middle of the green stripes in the middle row.
The blocks are not sewn together yet, so I could remake the 3rd and 4th rows: 3rd row would be green and white just like rows 1 & 5, and then the 4th row would be gray with orange in the middle.
I could salvage the current 3rd and 4th rows by putting them on the back.
I'm posting a picture of the current, but unplanned, layout and I'd really LIKE YOUR FEEDBACK!!!

If you go with the mom's requested colors you'll have a lovely modern, calming quilt. Adding such a bright orange is more than a pop of color, it's more like a BANG! How about just a touch of a bit lighter orange in the backing instead?
