Bonnie Hunter at Quiltville.com has a great pattern for mini scraps, called 'Crumb quilts"

We were making a simple block by block quilt in neon colors for my girls' bed (my daughters were helping) and there was a lot of small strips left over. After watching an episode of Sewing With Nancy, we chopped the strips into small tiny pieces (1/2 inch), sprinkled them onto some of the blocks in shapes of hearts, stars, moons and diamonds. Then we gently covered them with water soluable stabilizer and stitched over all the pieces in a zig-zag pattern. Then, when the stabilizer had dissolved, we satin stitched around the edges of the designs. We had no scraps and it came out unique and adorable. And you can do whatever design you want!

Lay then out on wash away stabilizer and then stitch them with one of the fancy stitches on you machine. Also if they are real small you can put them out in the spring for birds to build nests.

Andy323 .... Mile-a-minute has been renamed 'crumb blocks' and Bonnie Hunter has a tutorial on 'crumbs' here...
http://quiltville.com/crumbs.shtml

I found making these are fun but creates even more 'crumbs'.

Charcfts, I like your word "ravelings". Much of what I have to do something with are pieces less than 1/2 in wide, and some start at 1/2 and go to a point. I just needed to hear from some of you that it was ok to toss these threads. anything wider than an inch I keep and someday will do a string quilt. I also started saving my selvages because of all the cute ideas I saw here.

I have seen some really cute things made with those tiny pieces too, and it's tempting, but then there is the space issue. Even though my sewing room isn't tooooo small, and I have taken over the closets in two of other three empty bedrooms, I have drawn the line at how small of pieces to save, and store.

Try arrangeing them into a picture of some kind and randomly stitch them down. Makes great wallhangings.
