Rotary cutter problem

May seem to be a silly idea, but if you are cutting flannel and using a new blade, could there be a build up of lint in your cutter? This may cause the nut not to tighten correctly. Try cleaning your rotary cutter and make sure that your screw/nut is tight.

Those birds are the most colorful little things.....bless you. Might I suggest another washing machine dedicated to human/ fabric laundry. My first thought was if seeds are in the flannel, where else might they be! Get up off the floor....have someone.....maybe the person who built the averies.....build a cutting table of sorts............what an interesting life you have!

I had the same problem after cutting flannel....only I have a Martelli rotary cutter, so it may be different for you. I went thru several new blades with the same problem, and finally discovered a little fabric debris was inside the flange where the blade goes- I didn't see it just changing the blade, I had to stick something in there to clean it out. Hope this helps! It fixed my problem!

You know, it's obvious many responders did not bother to read beyond the original post before they answered with their own thoughts, could have saved themselves and others some time. It's just a courtesy to do this.
Many had great suggestions, and it's been good fun to find out that BIRD SEED was the cause of this unique problem!! Whodda thunk it?!
Bet that particular one won't be a problem for most of us.

What an interesting mystery! Glad you persisted and solved it. Your situation is probably very unique, but it prompted a long list of possibilities for the rest of us to look out for when having problems. But I still don't see how in the world you are comfortable cutting on the floor. I can't even think about doing that. It would cripple me forever. Enjoy it while you can!

I would think that if you were cutting the ruler you would always know that. I have done that and always know that it happened. I honestly wonder if it is actually the cutter-----perhaps it has sort of gotten unaligned---not sure if possible but you never know.

Just can't understand how you are getting this problem after you say you used different packs of bades and also reversing your board.Do you think it just may be with the holder, is it damaged in some way? Do hope you get it sorted out. Love Letty
