"New" Sewing Room

I use book shelves to store my fabric too. To cover the fabric to protect from dust and fading, I put a tension rod inside the bookcase at the top and made a curtain panel with cafe curtain rings on the top edge. The rings let the panel slide to either side, out of the way, when I want to see the fabric.
Since your storage units extend beyond the front of the shelves, maybe DH could mount a curtain rod that would extend out 3 - 5 inches, and your panel could slide on that. Not as good as doors, but effective! I made my panels out of some $1.00 per yard fabric from Walmart's bargain table. It was bright and pretty and I bought all they had (about 19 yds) knowing that I would use it somewhere. Looks good.
Your room is great ... lots of planning went into that!

Funny you should mention curtains -- a few years ago, I took the sliding doors off my closet and replaced them with curtain panels made from a king-sized sheet from Ross; super cheap and already "hemmed"! I made them really full so that they look nice, and, boy -- they sure make looking through your clothes a lot easier!
As for curtains in my sewing room, I think -- because I get into the things on these shelves so often -- I would find them to be a nuisance. Given my limited space, I don't think I have enough room to store the fabric on shelves anyway -- right now a lot is stored in containers on top of the shelves. If I put all of that ON the shelves, something else would have to take its place, and I can't imagine what I could put up there and still have it accessible. [I'm not super-tall, so getting those containers down is a stretch as it is! :) ]
But see, this is what so cool about putting my pics up: people see things that I may not have. Since I'm the first to admit that I don't have the final answer on anything, one of these things might be just what I need. [And even if *I* can't use an idea, that shouldn't stop someone else from using it!! ]
Thanks, Lynsews, and everyone else, too!

Hey! do you find the exercise equipment distracting?... that stupid treadmill in my sewing room mocks me, I don't know why I keep rewarding it by throwing a quilt over it?
I am JEALOUS! can I come over and touch your stuff?

You mentioned (if I remember right) that your husband's cookbooks were on the shelves. Is he a chef or are you just lucky to have a man who is this talented and also cooks? Great
room and love your organization.

Hehehe.... I know what you mean about the labeler... My hubby got me one a few years ago and I just love how it helps me organize! You wouldnt think something so simple could make such a difference, but it sure has. All over my house!
And... I sometimes make labels for some of the ladys that I quilt with and give them as a small gift. I put their name and phone or address oh them. They can use them on all of their cutters, rulers, patterns, etc.
