Same here. I haven't done a quilt step by step by the pattern. I've always added or completely changed the pattern and then had to calculate fabric requirements. All fun and challenging at the same time. Also, I work with an accountant...maybe I'm just strange. lol I'm a math geek :)

One of the hardest parts of quilting is the math. If I'd known in school how much I would need it for quilting I would have tried a "little" harder".
Drawing pictures and having my husband help is the best way for me. Why hurt my brain with the math when he can do it much faster.

I never use a calculator, tried a few times and goi all mixed up. I add my items at the grocery and come inside $2,00, I coubt stitches when I knit, if I do a buffet or a meal for a group I know the cost by serving. I guess I see numbers everywhere.

As long as you know how many yds of fabric you need for your next project, the rest tends to be not so important.

I do art and math. I love numbers and patterns, too. When I was in high school, I used to check out library math books, so I could do more problems (?)!

hmmm do you mean add 3+2=6? LOL unfortunately I was one of those generation of kids where I was told I would never need anything more than addition & subtraction in life. Well I use a whole lot more than that now !LOL including Trig !

In my opinion, basic math is something everyone should be able to do. Unfortunately, the advent of the calculator has not helped as someone mentioned. We have forgotten the basics because the calculator is just too handy. What has this done to our brains?
Young people working in stores are absolutely lost if their cash register goes down; they don't know basic math! Can they count change back to you??? I rest my case.
