I live in TX, maybe it's called Hell in the summer months and Heaven in the winter. My electric bill was only $350 this month and we cool almost 4,000 sq ft. We set both sides of the house different, so most of the time one side is about 84 and the other side is 82, except at night and it's 79. We have lots of insulation, new windows and a steel roof, so that all helps. My neighbor had a $890, so I'm very happy.

Talking about electric bills for July..... My bill was terrible for one of my homes! I have 2 homes and they are in hot places. The bill for Nevada was only $120.00 and I couldn't believe it. I stay in this home at least 4/5 days a week. The bill at the California farm was over $500.00. Almost had a heart attack!!!

I dread seeing my water bill as well. I am watering the minimum that I can and make sure my foundation is protected.
This show differences in different areas. Why do you have to water to protect your foundation?

NOW I see this has been already answered. Thanks.

Well, I also live in Florida and thought I owuld ha ve to go on welfare just to pay the elec. bill (LOL). But when it comes to being able to breathe easy, I opt for the a/c to keep cranking out the cool air. It has been hotter then normal and for a veery long extended period of time.
Guess the answer is to start having our government pay more attention to having the wind turbines to generate electric without putting a very large burden onto the people.

Our utility bills are outrageous. DH has lots of health issues so we have to keep the house cool in the summer and warm in the winter or he gets sick(er). We are just resigned to not having much money on hand.

I am not sorry I live in Oregon this summer. We have only had a few days in the 80's. Been very cool and moist. I am definitely not complaining :D

Whatever it takes to be comfortable! Both husband and I are home all day (retired) and keep it 70 degrees 24/7. During the night we can open the windows and turn fan on to bring in the cool air; close it up in the morning. There is a lot of stress on your heart if you have to fight the heat so you do whatever you have to and pray you have the funds to pay for it.

with a huge inground pool to run, and the 2200 sq ft house at 76-78 all day, with temperatures 95+ for most of the month, our bill was $277.

That said, I'm ok with that.
