The ones I got from WM worked for a while then one day the things fell apart - made a cute pair of earrings for my DIL.

Now, that's an idea, making earrings out of bobbins! :)
I had just read and printed out a copy of your generic tutorial on vintage sewing machines not working on the 'Vintage sewing machine not sewing' and then I find you here. Thanks for the info. I hope I never need it, but will keep it handy in case I do. I just love these old machines!

You have a model 66 singer, made 11/3/1920. You should use a class 66 bobbin.

P.S. Your needle should be threaded from left to right.
Left to right ?? I don't recall any vintage Singer that threads
that way. right to left or from the front.----be sure your bobbin is threaded the right way also. do you have a manual. (that is probably answered elsewhere--I should read all of the answers before I jump in !) and check to see if
you threaded the top thread right.

I am guessing that you have the correct bobbin, it is just vintage. My 1919 66 redeye came with solid metal bobbins with just one hole.

OOPS !! I suffer from foot-in-mouth. someone could have
made a buck betting me. I was sure that vintage machine did
not thread left to right. I was WRONG !. I went to Singerco.com & looked up the 66 manual. (which is free to dowload) and yes, it does thread from left to right. the needle
is inserted with the flat side to the right. bobbin thread is counterclockwise when inserted. on the way back to here, my computer decided to have fun with me, so took a while.
My apologies to the lady that I disagreed with on the threading! smitty

On any machine you should be able to tell which way it threads. Just look at the last little thread guide by the needle. It threads from that side of the machine, and the flat side of the needle goes on the opposite side. If the last little thread guide, like on some newer machines, is in the front, then the needle is threaded from the front. Unless that last little thread guide is missing, one shouldn't have a problem with deciding which way it is threaded. I hope this helps. Now as for the bobbin.... different machines have it going different ways, so I can't help there too much. That is where the book comes in handy. :-)

Your needle may have slipped down. Loosen you needle and readjust it up. Or better yet change your needle with a new one. Try a new needle not a used one, your needle may have a slight bend in it that you cannot see.

Here's a chart that shows which needle and the position it goes into the vintage Singer sewing machines.

I hope this helps.
