That is outrageous. I got my kitty from the local animal shelter. Before I could take her home she was spayed and tested and got her first shots. Total cost $50.

Georgia has a low cost program through the Humane Society.

You may need to find a new vet. That vet is not in business for you or your animals.

Check your local Animal Shelter. They usually know of a clinic for reduced costs of neutering and spaying. You might want to check the next county if you do not get much response from your local shelter. I go to a clinic in the next county, about 45 min to an hour away, but is well worth it for the cost to me. Plus it is in Lancaster PA so get to shop LOL. Good luck, take care.

Thank you for all the responses.

Maybe this is in the same category as paying for a $12.00 haircut versus a $50.00 one?

Or paying $12.00/yard at a LQS for fabric versus $5.44 at WalMart?

Sometimes one is willing to pay a bit more for care and/or service that one is reasonably sure will be high quality and that the vets do seem to care.

Is this cat worth it? Are any of them?

But I've taken him in, so I feel duty-bound to continue to feed and shelter him. And get him modified. And his vaccinations. I will ask for a senior discount on a one-time basis, though.

Hi, Bearisgray!
I got my cat at the SPCA, and she was already spayed. I had to get her front declawed because of the laws here. That cost $194.00. The first cat I got front declawed was $50. Is it another case of "everything is going up," or just larger vet clinics with larger payroll?

Vets are wonderful people. Every time my animals are sick I take them to her. I just don't think the cost of doing something right such as shots and spay/neuter should cost an arm and a leg. Thank you so much for taking him in. You will see when this time passes he will be well worth the trouble.

Yikes! I just got home from the vet - check up for the muttly. With all his shots, and a mani/pedi it was only $80. BUT, the estimate to neuter him $250!! then another $200 to remove his dew claws while the have him knocked out. That's nearly double what the last one cost me - and that was a female even!
