Why does everyone seem to like all these old outdated sewing machines?I like the new ones, but then I have never had an old one.Is it just to collect them?

I use mine for workshops and classes because it is light and not complicated. No electronic stuff to go goofy!

Hi Berta,

The older machines did not have a zigzag stitch, so their straight stitch is absolutely beautiful. Until you see the stitching, you won't understand what I mean.

They also just don't die. They are very well made, all metal, and if they are taken care of, could probably still be working hundreds of years from now.

The Featherweights are just adorable and sew beautifully. Most find that the case is molded from being stored in a basement and you have to watch for rust on the bottom as well, but mine is in fabulous condition and I love every scratch on it knowing it was well used by the prior owner.

Well, I got an email again from the wonderful lady who gave me the Featherweight. It was owned by her grandmother, and her maiden name was "Eleanor Love". Isn't that a great name?

So, now I have to decide between Frieda, Freesia, and Lovie (LOVE, E.)!

I am very intrigued by the attachments and will have to give them a whirl. They are pretty dirty with some kind of tacky substance. Is it okay to clean them with Goo Gone?

Hi KaterTot!

I hope you are feeling better!

No offense, but I'm so glad I got to her first! LOL!

I think pretty much all the machines made in the 40s were in tables, which is why I assumed this was a Featherweight when I saw the description.

We like the old machines because the vast majority of them are very well made, not plastic wonders like the new machines of today. I sew with a Singer that was made in 1937 and sews as well as the day it was made; its a treadle
machine. I use my old machines, I am a quilter and make garments too. I also collect and use Singer Featherweights.
