Unhappy How do you open PES file?

I have just purchased a Babylock Sopia machine. Love the mache, but have a problem. How can I open a pes file on my computer to be able to see the pattern? I want to be able to transfer the pattern to a memory stick and place it in my machine, but cannot see the file. PES is a zipped file, and I have tried winzip, and 7zip, to no avail. I really want to embroder, but need to see what the pattern is before I can transfer it. I know babylock sells a Studio One to do this, but really cannot afford the $200+ for the program. Any suggestions? I am so frustrated!
    Thank You
    Barbara

You have to have the right software to open any embroidery files in your computer. To just see the files you can use something like BuzzTools, to write to your cards you need different software. There are a lot of them out there that are newer than what I have. A lot of people really like the Embrid software, I have never used it. Google 'embroidery sewing machine software' and you come up with lots of alternatives....

My husband bought me a software program, but I can't remember the name. We got it from SewForLess.com and it wasn't expensive (under $50). It's on my lap top, not the machine I'm on right now, so can't look at name, but it shows (in the lower margin of the screen) each .pes file so you can see them - otherwise you can't open on a regular computer. I double click on the zip files to unzip and then start placing my cursor over the various files to see which I want to transfer to a 3 1/2" floppy for my embroidery machine. Good luck.

You need embroidery software to open all embroidery designs. I have Embird, it's at www.embird.net there is a 30 day trial period you can download for free. It's easy to use and not real expensive. It has different modules or add on you can purchase.

The machine should have come with software and an interface. You probably need to purchase the Babylock software: http://www.babylock.com/software/palette-pts/

There are also older versions of PE Design on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/PE-DESIGN-Version-4-0-/251015163747 and http://www.ebay.com/itm/Brother-PED-Basic-Embroidery-Software-w-card-box-good-condition-/190652452504

You can also download a free program called Wilcom Truesizer. http://wilcom-truesizer.en.softonic.com/
With this software you can open the files, view them, and actually resize them.

I also recommend Wilcom Truesizer (link in the above post) - for viewing and resizing - WOW!

I recommend SewIconz from Sands computing http://www.sandscomputing.com/id18.html It costs $25 and is very versatile. It lets you see what the design is through your regular Internet Explorer. I have wonderful (and very expensive) Bernina software, and I still find it a handy fast thing to use without taking the time to open my software. It doesn't do any file conversions, just viewing. For file conversions I like the free Bernina software called Artlink http://www.berninausa.com/product_de...-i325-sUS.html You can also use it for viewing files, but it takes a few seconds to open it up.

I don't remember what program I bought, but it was about $25 and well worth it. Before you know it, you will have thousands of designs. I think DesignsbySick has a folder system that is wonderful for organizing everything. You can get it free by joining his yahoo group. Have fun.

I have an older program, SewWhat Pro, from SandsComputing.com. It does everything I need it to do and is not complicated OR expensive.
