Default Quilting Styles

I am intrigued at the many ways people go about making their projects.

Some will follow a pattern exactly.

Some will sort of follow a pattern.

Some will totally ignore the pattern instructions.

Some have every stitch planned before starting and have everything in place before making the first cut of fabric.

Some create as they go. They really don't have any idea how something will end up when they start. They are willing to improvise or substitute along the way.

Some start with a plan but modify it as they go.

I think I'm mostly in the "Create as I go" category.

How about you?

If I see a pattern I really like, I save it if I can. I found one I really like and since I don't have a color printer, it came out on black and white. I use color pencils or markers and color over the patterns to get an idea how it's going to turn out. I need a pattern to work off of or use as a guide to vary.

I try to follow the pattern, pray a lot, and come up with something fairly close to the original.

Ok! so I'm scatterbrained. I never have stayed within boundaries.

I'm like GKSM--trying to follow pattern, praying and hoping for the best!

I'm in the sort of follow category. I use parts of many patterns to make one quilt. I add elements I like and remove those I don't and design a quilt I like from many components. If I am making something for a fast gift or give away I will follow a pattern rather than spending a lot of creative time. It all depends on the need at the time.

I am a follow the rules kind of person. I pick out a pattern, find the fabric and then start cutting. Many times I do decide that I would like sashing or extra borders but I keep the block pattern and follow it exactly. I have only made one quilt I was unhappy with and I was very new at quilting and did not read the pattern. I loved the block just not how they put the twin size together.

It is so good to find other people who run down their own path. I've had a difficult life because I think, speak and act different than those around me. You guys are the greatest!
I see a pattern that I like and imitate it in my own way .... sometimes it comes out good, sometimes it goes to the dogs or the rag bin. As try as I might, I can't follow a pattern true .... sometimes even the tutorials drive me batty.

I am a kinda follow the pattern, but in general I have everything planned out from the very first to the binding. To me each step is a flavor layer in the finished product. (can you tell I am watching the food network channel right now )
