Default Memorial Tie Quilts

I made three crazy quilts out of men's ties and shirts. The client wanted three crazy quilted lap quilts or pillows made from her deceased husband's ties. She is a friend of a co-worker and I was honored to be asked to make these quilts for her family. One quilt will be for her, but the other two quilts will be going to her two sons. I love this! Problem: Only 22 Ties! Solution: I asked her to also include some of her husband's shirts and we could make the lap quilts instead of the pillows. I couldn't find a good commercial tie design for the border, so I made it myself. What do you think of the border design? I love how they came out!

The quilts are lovely! I imagine they are a good remembrance to the owners too.

Somewhere... (in storage) I have a trunk full of ties waiting to be stitched together for someone's quilt. I hope it can be mine.

When I was a small girl, a neighbor made a beautiful comforter-type quilt from her late husband's ties, and I have wanted one ever since. Hers was unusual in that it only had the ties and no borders or sashing. Somehow she criss-crossed the ends to make them come out even--wide end matched to a narrow end.

What a great idea. I really like what you did with the borders, very creative and they came out great, job well done. I'm sure the family will treasure them.

I think you did an awesome job!!! I have 2 boxes of ties that I need to make something with. I think I'll borrow your idea.

You did a wonderful job on all three. I also like how all three are tied together (punn intended) with regards to the thin borders being a thick border on one of the other quilts!
