Question What constitutes a scrap?

How small/large a piece of fabric do you consider a scrap?

While my scraps are mostly FQ size or smaller, I will sometimes use fabric that I can't otherwise find a use for. At times, I think those wonky fabrics I picked out in a moment of madness add the most color and texture for my scrap project.

I buy lots of fat eights so anything half the size of that is a scrap to me.

To roughly quote Marti Michell, "A scrap is any piece of fabric that I haven't used, even if it's 5 yards long."

That may be extreme. I think of scraps as any fabric that I have used part of. It may be big or small, but it's the scrap left after cutting.

In my case everything is a scrap. I'm doing a lot of paper piecing and some of the fabric pieces are only 3/4" for a 1/4 spot of color. I save all the crumbs that are at least 3/4" square.

When it goes into the wastebasket or into the bags for shredding. Scrap is sommething I can not use.

I buy fabric strictly for projects, not for stash. Scrap is anything left over at the end of the project, no matter the size of the piece. If for some reason I chose not to use the fabric in my project afterall, the whole piece is a remnant scrap.
