Default Eldredge Two Spool motor question

Hoping someone may be able to tell me what kind of motor my newly acquired Two Spool should have. Mine came with only half a motor, and I have no idea if any kind would work or what specifically to look for. I'm toying with the idea of a hand crank, but not sure if I want to go that route or not. It would also need to be rewired and I'm hoping I can use the old foot pedal again safely. Any help would be much appreciated!

What does the drive end of the motor look like? Most Nationals had direct drive motors, but some had belts.

Hi Cathy,

It does not have a belt, so I guess that means direct drive. I have a couple of better pictures below. Thanks!

I love the foot pedal on my Two Spool. It has a piece sticking up that I can bump my foot against, so I always know where it is. There is also a very small tab on the left side so I can put my left foot on that, and it's not going anywhere.

I can't answer your questions, but can you tell me why it's called a "Two Spool?"

It is a beautiful machine!

Instead of having a bobbin and bobbin case there is a second spool of thread in place of the bobbin and it has its own thread case.

I'll let someone more informed on these answer your questions but I have to ask about the "half a motor"? It looks all there to me.

The pictures are kind of dark. I got to a monitor that is naturally too bright and saw what she meant. The motor insides are all there but half of the cover is gone. And part of what is gone is one side to hold the motor in place as it spins. I hope a donor piece from a different National will work because I have no idea how anyone would fudge making a piece to hold a motor while it turns.

Yes, the pics are dark, sorry! My baby is trying to sleep in the room with the laptop, so I'm just using the tablet. I guess "half" a motor is a bit of an exaggeration, but just about any piece missing will make it unusable. Maybe you can tell better in this photo that the end cap is off, as well as whatever connects to those two wires. If only I knew where to get a donor motor...

How odd to arrive with half the motor casing. I can only guess the other piece was damaged beyond repair. Strange. Ir would be nice to have the perfect replacement but I am sure any sewing motor will work. Try and get photos from the side so people can see exactly what you have and someone might have a replacement or the parts you need to fix yours.
