Thanks all!

Shasta5718 ... I'm using a VERY heavy stabiizer and it was doubled up - and it's not even tear away, I have to cut it off ...

If you have a recommendation (by name) that would work for something like this, I would be thrilled, because I have gone through a ton of stabilizers trying to get it to work, and I'm at my wits end

I don't have an embroidery machine so this suggestion may be way off, but could your bobbin tension be too tight? That's what it looks like to me. If so that would seem to be a simple adjustment to possibly take care of your problem.

mom-6 ... my the tension is supposed to be self adjusting ... LOL ... so if that's really it, then I'll have to bring it in! It's a thought to consider tho, thank you!

Too much stabilizer is as bad as not enough. If you're hooping the fabric, are you hooping it too tight? That's one of the biggest causes of issues. Heavy dense designs can be tricky. What I do is use a real lightweight iron on permanent interfacing on the back side of the fabric. I hoop one layer of Vilene and float my fabric, basting it to the vilene. I start a test stitch-out and if it starts puckering I'll float a layer of medium cut away below the hoop. This has worked for me with several Loralie designs and they are very dense. Another thing that helps with real dense small designs is to enlarge them 5% in your machine. It won't change the design size hardly at all but it helps with puckering and bunching.

No, probably not. Machine embroidery bottom tension is way different than normal sewing.

Lovely quilt! I like the framing on the emb. blocks & like the sample you did. I think that is really going to look nice. Can't wait to see it finished.

To me..it looks likes your fabric slid into the frame as the embroidery got denser..that's what is causing it to pucker. I don't know what brand machine you're using , but there are tuts out there for ways to make your fabric stay in your frame right where you put it.
To start..I'd use a chalk pencil and lightly trace on your fabric around the inside of your hoop..note how close the pencil line is to the edges of the hoop..then embroider out a dense design and look to see where your lines are..if they've pulled in..then that is your problem. No stabilizer will fix that...it's the hoop..

Default Next step in the quilt!

Thanks all for the suggestions ... I will definitely try them all out later and see what works best!

So it's all put together, and I have two options for the border:

1 - quilted raised border
2 - "flat" border

Here's the whole quilt top

Here's the "quilted border"

Here's the "flat border"

And here's a pic with both flat and quilted borders

And finally - what's up with my cutting board? All this stuff from my batting ... and I can't get it out LOL Does this mean it's time for a new one?

Thanks again, and hope everyone is enjoying their evening!
