Default First quilt-Sashing and border width

I found the cut pieces of a beautiful BOM at a yard sale - well I found about 9 of them, 7 of them with the pattern. (It is a Northcott fabric about 8 years old) Because each block is a different flower, different colours and different block pattern, I feel they need separation to show each one off. I tried a number of greens and am now thinking that I will use a black sashing hoping to give the idea of pictures framed. Each block will be 15" finished. I am wondering if perhaps 1 1/4" or 1 1/2" would be the best idea. I have laid them out but as I haven't finished a quilt yet I am unsure. I thought I would do the same for the border/binding. I appreciate your suggestions, Kelsie

I like the black, but with blocks that size, I'd like the sashing a little wider. Are you talking 1" finished or cut? I'd cut at least 2", maybe 2 1/4 or 2 1/2. Then you can do a thin border of black, a coordinating print border (or one of your greens if you can't find a print) about 5"'and bind it in black. Northcutt has some nice greens in small geometric prints or spatter dots right now (for the border.) Sounds like a quilt I would like.

My first thought is that the narrower sashing would be good. However, you might want to audition the 2 inch or 2 1/4 inch widths also. They might be better proportioned. I think the borders should be wider than the sashing strips for better visual balance. This sounds like a lovely find at a yard sale.

The size you mentioned seems to narrow for that size block. I would audition different widths as well. Please show us the finished product!!

lay out the blocks and take a pic so we know what you are attempting.

I have seen large blocks like yours with narrow sashing strips. Made the quilt look like stain glass windows. Your quilt your way.

I have taken pictures and tried for the last 1/2 hour to upload them. I read the directions but can't get an address/URL. Frustrating. I am not very computer savvy and unfortunately neither is my husband. Grrrrr.
