Default When you need simple attachments for 221

I was gifted with a Featherweight 221 and it came with 2 different sizes of bobbins and bobbin cases. Didn't think anything about it as I'm not real familiar with the 221 but I wanted to try it out so I filled the larger bobbin with white thread but when I went to put it into the machine with the larger bobbin case, no such luck. So I'm thinking the gal that had this machine before me was screwed when ordering it from somewhere other than the Singer Featherweight store online.

I'd ordered some bobbins from Walmart's online. They claimed the bobbins fit the 221 but when I got them, they were the same larger size as I already had so that's why I'm thinking the gal got screwed thinking the same as I did. I did take the bobbins back to Walmart and explained to them that their website is offering misguided items.

I then searched online and found the Featherweight site and searched thru there. Found my bobbins at a even less price than Walmart with no shipping fee. Boy was I surprised. I received my bobbins this past Saturday and yes, they are the correct ones so now I have 10 more bobbins to use on this precious machine.

I'm glad you got the correct bobbins. I've found them at estate sales for almost nothing. My FWs and my 301 use the same bobbins and I bought about 30 of them for a few dollars so I'm set.

I've found the Featherweight Shop https://singer-featherweight.com/ to be reasonable and reliable. I buy most of my FW parts and supplies from them.

I wouldn't necessarily think the previous owner bought the wrong bobbins. At this point I know I have at least 5 different bobbins (probably more) in my machines, and it's easy for the extra ones to migrate to the wrong machine.

I've gotten random parts with some of my vintage machines that don't belong to that machine. I still have a throat plate that I haven't identified. It was with my Bernina 930 when I got it, but doesn't belong to that machine. I think that's fairly common.

My mother gave me the Singer 15-91 that she got as a wedding present in 1950 and I learned to sew on. With the machine was this extra box of attachments that no matter what I did I could not get them to attach and work. So I called my mother to find out what I was doing wrong. None of the items matched the book but I figured maybe they were made special. Mother laughed, it seems her mother (my grandmother) knew nothing about sewing but she loved a good bargain, so she probably bought them on sale and had no idea it was for a different brand. When I looked closer I saw the "W" on each item. They went to the thrift store, hopefully someone else will need them.

And from what I've read there is a problem with replacing the bobbin cases on the 221 - the make sure you go through a reputable dealer.

I guess I could be wrong about the prior owner ordering the wrong bobbins as I just did it because it stated it was for the 221. So please forgive me in thinking the prior gal got the wrong bobbins mixed up with this machine. If I can remember, she did have another machine years ago so they could have belong to that machine instead.

I know I could use the bobbins and feet from my high end Babylock with my low end Brother machine which tickled me to death back then.

I know I have read many reviews about bad replacement bobbin cases. Courtney did a detailed review earlier this year of several of the reproduction 221 bobbin cases which can be found at Colorado get-together?
