I live in a small town, no Joann's. I went to city for grandgirl's HS theater performance. Took the opportunity to shop several places.
I decided to wander around JoAnn's, west Wichita Ks. There were a couple of things I was looking for. They were out of muslin. Threads were decimated. Literally threadbare. Thread cupboards were for sale, but not pattern drawers.
I'd hoped for one of those. They are pre-selling the Ucarts for $100.
I bought an Ott light for $60, they had a whole row. Stated original price $100. After I got home, checked, the Ott website lists it for $100, so that was accurate. I looked at pins, I love good dressmaking pins, long & thin. 25% off Opened a box, very nice. (I'd buy the box I opened, friends.) So, I bought 3. Home, thought it over, $13 for pins, 25% off, I spent $30 on pins. Were they marked UP to mark DOWN? possibly.
Anyway...flannel 108" backing. Stumbled across a section. Not a lot of variety. Bolt marked $16-17, sign says 40% off. Hmm. Ok. Piled cart, went to cutting. They are only cutting whole yards. Ick. Ok. They stated Stillwater Okla is only cutting 2, 4, 6 yards. Well at least they're still cutting odd numbers. I bought 4. A couple were 2 y plus a remnant due to what was on the bolt. I asked for 5 y of one, but there was a cut at 4 y 17 ", so I took that 17" at remnant price.
When I finally reviewed my receipt, the ending price was 50% off the $16-17. Pretty great deal for 108" backing. Your bankrupt JoAnn's mileage may vary.

It's all dictated by Great American, which now owns what used to be JoAnn. If you want to read up on what h-e-double toothpicks the store employees are going through, both from GA and from unbelievably rude customers, the JoAnn subreddit is eye-opening.

I stopped in at my JoAnn's a couple days age, because it had been a while for me. Quilting cottons were only 20% off the original price, didn't think that was much of a bargain No quilt batting what so ever, but they did have foam for cushions. Never even looked at the thread as I have a lot already. I'll be using what is in my stash for quite some time.

I put 6 bolts in my cart. They were about 5 yards each and I took the whole bolt of each because thy were basic colors I can use in the future. I stood in the long checkout line and I thought - why am I standing here for 20% ? They aren’t honoring 15% Veterans Discount anymore either, so I stepped out of line and returned the fabric to its rightful place and left.

I feel your pain. I have been on the hunt for backings myself. Hubby ordered 5 battings and I have finally found the backings to finish the tops I have stashed away. So far I have finished three small 45" square ones I had the back and bats for.
Now I am waiting for the bats and backings to come in to start the larger queen quilts. I have lots of pieces of batting that I plan on making wallets for my sisters in laws for christmas. I have most of what I need for those on hand. Interfacing, the special fabric to stop id and credit card theft and some plastic for I D windows and zippers. So I will start those while I am waiting. To say the least, I have quite a sewing bout to get through this year.
But to the point of the backings, I found a couple at connecting threads.com that were large enough, reasonable enough and nice enough match to the tops to get them finished. You might check there. I found two on ebay that were a good price. Not as good as connecting threads, but okay.

Since Walmart closed their sewing section, JA was my go to for thread in an exact color. 20% discount is not enough to shop in disarray. One of our local sewing shops closed due to family issues. HL has super long lines at the register. I do not enjoy my shopping experience there. I still have a Singer Sewing Center, which is where I bought the thread that I ran out of mid-project!

I was at my local Joann's and spent more than I planned but not one piece of fabric. I bought a desk Ott light at 60% off, Yeah and then odds and ends of this and that. I did a little bit of Christmas shopping for "friends" that I just like to gift a little something each year. Candles! Woozers, did they have candles of all shapes, sizes and colors! Some with wicks but many were the nice looking battery ones. Tall, short, medium and in white and cream and a few in colors. I came home with an arm load for more gifts. I may return for more but not this week. The budget says, STOP, so I did. I suspect that as others near by sites are closing completely their stock is coming to my store because there are items in abundance that were not there three weeks ago. I saw a load of Wilton cake pans and decorating materials. Not for me but if you are a baker, it might be worth looking at your JA.
Flannel from JA,will need a good wash to shrink it now and not after it is used in a quilt top or back. At least that is what I have been told by others.

There are still criminals selling sewing machines for 45 -$75 on line and via text messages with the JoAnns logo and other official looking information.
THEY ARE NOT AFFILIATED WITH JOANNS OR GREAT AMERICAN.

I ventured into JA yesterday to check out indoor/outdoor fabric prices. I use it for jelly-roll rugs. None left, but checked out cotton fabrics. 50-60% off. Bought 11 pieces of blenders ( 2 yard minimum) of yellows, oranges, blacks, and greys. I chatted with employee that was cutting fabric. She wasn't sure of the closing, "End of the month," was all she knew, but she mentioned that they are paying an extra $1/hour for now.
BTW, while waiting to pay, I examined my list of fabrics' ticket. 24 yards total. I counted 11 pieces, which is 22 yards total. I had to explain to cashier that 11 times 2 equals 22, not 24.
