This is the first time I'm doing a quilt with sashing...if the piece of sashing is longer than your cut of fabric, how do you handle that? I'm sure there is a clever solution!! HELP!!

And make sure to do 45 degree seams when you join. Makes the seam lest noticeable especially if your design doesn't match up. :D

sashings and binding are different.
sashings should be cut the size of the block you are attaching them to. sides first. then press and remeasure to add sashing pieces to top and bottom of blocks.

I don't usually use 45 degree seams-depends on the design. Usually it seems like straight seams work better for me for sashing and borders. If I'm doing a scrappy binding I use a straight seam for that too.

If you are doing setting squares with the sashing you have to place them at the corner where the sashing meets. I adjust the sashing strip and make sure the setting square is right on. It is hard to notice the strip being a 'bit' different in size but the square being 'off' a little is very noticeable.

I agree. I have never done a sashing or binding by not doing a 45 degree angle. I guess because that is the way I was taught at a class that I took.
