best quilt brand
Aloha all,
I was curious what the best quilt brand is. There is a sale going on at a store I frequent but I know nothing about quilts so I don't know if is a good deal or not.
The sale is 25% off Martha Stewart quilts. The price for the full-sized queen is $99.99. (25% off though) I did some searching on Google and the only other place I saw that had them on sale is Macy's. There is another brand that they sell too named Dextar or something like that. (i don't remember the exact name...)
I was just wondering if this a good sale and more importantly even if it is a good buy are Martha Stewart quilts worth it? (excellent quality) From what I've seen on google, it seems that Hungarian goose down quilts are the best but not sure if I need that really. I sleep on the floor and that's what I'm using it for, to sleep on top of it. (so no white color quilts) Thank you!

I would think that MS has good stuff, but have no idea on prices. I don't buy quilts, but make them myself, as do most of the people on this board. Although I am sure that many have bought them at some time or another. Maybe some will come along with some experience and give you a better answer. Welcome to the board!! Gina

To be honest, I'd go buy a blow up bed and and electric blanket first. But to answer your question buy a quilt from a quilter. There are plenty here who sell quilts that are excellent quality. I haven't seen a commercial brand of quilts that were worth the money.

If you want that type of quilt just buy the prettiest one you see. It won't be like a handmade quilt but will give you a sense of color. You would never be able to buy a handmade quilt for anything close to those prices.

any 'mass produced' quilt is going to be ---just that- often made in China= if that's what you are looking for... here we make quilts- we don't generally buy store bought quilts- if you might be interested in an actual 'custom made' (not mass produced) quilt there are many places to visit/browse to find them- 'QuiltsforSale.ca' & Etsy are two sources to find nice, good quality quilts

Most people on this board make their quilts. They are not store-bought. If you are going to sleep on it, I would suggest buying an air mattress. We have one for when our grandchildren (of whom we have custody) have friends over for the night.

@Tartan - Yeah, that was I am looking for. I do not need padding, just something to keep me directly off the floor since it is a bit cold. In Korea, we have heated floors which I miss dearly.
@ckcowl - I do not think I would be able to appreciate nor notice the differences in a handmade and mass-produced quilt so it probably would not be wise for me to purchase one.
I think I will go ahead and get the quilt. Seems to be a good deal. Thank you all for the quick responses.
I may stick around though and try out this quilting thing at least once. There is quilting Guild here in Honolulu that I have looked up since joining the board last night. About how long would it take me to make a king-sized quilt by myself everything handmade considering that I am a beginner?
I looked at some threads on google about how hard sewing and quilting is and it seems that sewing is hard but for quilting the hard part is cutting straight lines and sewing in straight lines. I might be able to get that down... (not sure though)
