Modern or Traditional
Curious as to how everyone's taste in quilting runs. Everyone seems to like the quickness of modern quilting patterns such as strip quilts, simple block patterns, and for some of these I'm also included in the group. But the traditional block speak to me, such as Pineapple, Crown of Thorns, Nine Patch, Irish Chain, Log Cabin etc., and for some reason I seem to do better piecing the traditional blocks. Do you have a preference and why?

I am more traditional. Modern is often asymmetrical and I have a hard time with that. Now I don't mind traditional blocks with modern fabrics. Or modern patterns with traditional fabrics. Always open to trying something new.

I've been trying to figure out my preferences so I can choose a direction for my future quilting, but I haven't reached any conclusions yet, other than that primitive isn't it; I recently accepted a trial issue of Primitive Quilts, and none of the featured designs interested me, and the colors were too subdued for my taste.

I definitely lean to traditional! Large, asymmetric and geometric blocks do nothing for me. Same for the big stitching movement.
That said, I do understand and recognize the need. If the quilting world does not accept change, it will die out again. Rather than wait that and then for a resurgence, such as we had in the states following the bicentennial in 1976, why not try to include the more modern styles? If it makes people love quilts and quilting, I say YEAH!!
