I have carpet in my sewing room because it is also a spare bedroom. I'm thinking about in putting some sort of solid flooring. With a small budget and working with a concrete slab I'm not sure what would be best. Any recommendations?

I would look into good quality cork-backed vinyl planking.

Allure brand vinyl planks are relatively inexpensive, look good and last. X and I installed it in a bathroom in a day. It can go over existing vinyl but of course you will need to pull up the carpet. I am not sure if you would want to put down a subfloor for comfort.

I love the vinyl planking I had installed in my sewing studio... it is super easy to keep clean.

Thanks for the input ladies. I'm pretty sure we will go with either the vinyl planks or the wood laminate planks. Now we're just waiting for HD or Lowes to have a good sale on flooring.

We put vinyl flooring in my sewing room and am very happy with it. Easy to keep clean. The only thing I would do different would be to get a thicker/better vapor barrier for the concrete slab, as it does tend to be colder on bare feet in the winter

This is the brand we installed in our DR and plan to install in other rooms of the house as well. It is Home Depot's in-house brand. You mention that the room is on a concrete slab. Is water/moisture an issue?? Allure has 2 levels - one is a lifetime warranty and 100% waterproof. The other, slightly less expensive level has a 10-15 yr warranty and I believe not 100% waterproof so be careful to check those specifics if that is the option you decide.

When I got rid of my carpet in my den (16X20), I replaced it with a wood looking porcelain which I got at Lowe's. It's beautiful and so easy to upkeep. It cost me around $2300 installed. My husband and I took up the old carpet.

I'm in the middle of a similar sewing room re-model.
After much thought, we decided to go with wood laminate.
My dh has ripped up the carpeting and is ready now to lay the underlayment.
Our wood is ordered and set to come in Friday.
My plan is to use sisal or very low loft rugs under my rolling chairs to protect the floors.

My sewing room is in the basement so I have a cement floor. Half the floor is carpeted so that's where I have my cutting table and fabric shelves. My machines are in the room with the bare cement floor. Its uneven so no solution what I can do. Had carpet runners so help my feet when standing at the quilt machine but I would get zapped during the winter time. I purchased those rubber pads that look like a zigsaw puzzle and placed them in front of my quilt machine. So far no electric shocks for me. Easy on my feet too.
