Default Virtual Quilting Weekend--May 10-12, 2024

Welcome to our LATE Virtual Quilting Weekend. Thank you to those who checked in on me. I am fine, life has been busy but that's no excuse for my being late . My husband keeps telling me to put it on the calendar and I tell him it's not necessary but apparently it is!

So what are you all working on this weekend? I have a couple quilt alongs to work on.

VQW will be June 14-16, 2024 next month. And I am marking it on my calendar right now!

I am so sorry for being late again

Today is guild meeting and I am binding a quilt. Not sure what will come after that. I keep looking at the growing pile of scraps and think I should just make some mindless 9P and 4P blocks to be used later

Good morning! I spent yesterday in a workshop, "Manage Your Scraps". It was fun, but my scraps still need managing! It should have been titled "Some Projects for Your Scraps". I made a much needed hot pad. Also a cute glasses case.
This weekend, I plan to continue sewing little squares together for my huge pink shell pixel quilt. I've stitched thousands of squares in 3 shades of pink. I decided to do the "monotonous" section first and save the colorful section after that. I'll snap a pic of design wall later. The Fairy Frost Collection from Michael Miller is so sparkly.

I haven't done much in my sewing room for a year now. I did make 5 new pillows with pleats and embroidery designs for my sofa. Plus 5 wallhangings in picture frames of wild cat embroidery designs.............yet to be hung up at this date.

I finally ordered and received a new quilt pattern by Elizabeth Hartman, her Dinosaurs for alittle tyke in my congregation as he loves dinosaurs. His sister already has a quilt from me back when she was 1st born but they moved away and now are back. He's just around 2yo I think. Got all 36 fabrics pulled from my stash and found enough dark grey fabric for the background, all 6 yards of it. Got the 36 starched and pressed ready to go and just the other day I was able to starch and hung up the 6yd piece. Today I'll try to get it pressed now that I cleared off my cutting table as it was filled with DVD movies waiting for their new home to be built which happend this past Wednesday. Now I have no excuse not to press the fabric. My cutting table is at the same height as my pressing station so I can have the fabric lay on the cutting table instead of hanging over into a puddle getting wrinkled again.

I've been told this pattern has lots of very small pieces and that's out of my comfort zone so this might be a challenge for me. I still have the quilt I was quilting a year ago last month still on the frame half done so will need to get with it and finish her soon.

Wish me luck on both projects.

Ha! I am going to do some "Air quilting" while I work on stuff in my yard. My nephew and grand nephew are coming over to help the old folks with some yard work. My brother and his wife were here yesterday and took down some of the old stuff in the garden. Yep, green things have finally emerged a little from our frozen beds and there was even a bit of frost on the roof tops yesterday morning. Last evening we had a really good downpour with fierce winds which lasted about 20 minutes and then cleared real nice so I could see the northern lights even though I am in town. Anyway, I have been thinking about pulling out my embroidery machine and making some blocks that will become the centers of some crazy quilt blocks made from my ever growing supply of scraps. That seems like it would be fun. But alas! It will be "air embroidery, piecing, and quilting" for this weekend.

Count me in on this VQW please I planned to do a mini snail trail wall hanging ,using up more of my scraps. I actually started on Friday 10th by selecting the scraps I needed and started cutting them out. Today I finished cutting and started sewing, and hope to finish it tomorrow .

Hello VQW-ers. Thank you Heather, no need to apologize

Good Luck on your project Snooze. Yes, some of Elizabeth Hartman's pieces are small but they are usually pretty square or HST. You can do it! How have the storms been in your area? Two of my internet friends are more west than you but survived with no tornadoes. We are going to meet one of them in person in the Quad-city area (just an hour or two from us here in Peoria), plans are for Saturday of Memorial Day weekend.

I've been having a lot of problems with my vision lately. I do have an appointment with a new specialist closer to July. I really am going to miss my specialist in the Seattle area... more than a lot of my family!

So haven't gotten much done in any regards lately. I did get my blocks finished and laid out for the "Eye Protection" quilt. The used long arm I bought remains in the garage. I still don't have a new "primary" sewing machine.

This weekend I hope to set up probably my vintage machine with zigzag and white thread for two projects. One is I have a "super single waterbed: which is an odd size... extra long and almost as wide as a double or queen. I've had a hard time finding a good mattress pad that fits as I want it, but I have two that I can cut apart and make into one that will be big enough and stay tucked in. Will be a big quality of life improvement.

The other is I will be putting together some thin batting scraps (I think Warm and Bright?) into 16" squares for a long put-off project involving some 1970s era cross stitch blocks. I'm going to prequilt the interior of the blocks, then set them with (already made) sashings, and when the top is done I'll use a full sheet of batting and quilt from the sashing into the blocks.

Yesterday I stitched the label on my Forest Galorest and hand quilted for a couple hours while a friend sat and did handwork. I have the guild zoom for 2 hours this morning so will do more hand quilting, but we are having some beautiful weather, so will definitely be getting out and about in that.
I was “gifted” a box of scraps so have spent time during the week getting them all hand washed and hung to dry in the bathroom, yay when I fold this batch, they are all done. I have a quilt that needs trimming and the binding attached, so will see if I get motivated to work on that. Looking forward to seeing what everyone shares, thanks for hosting again! 🧵🪡

Here are the type of scraps I received, most have chunks chopped out of then, but still lots of usable fabric.

I have been pulling fabric for a lone star quilt. While the fabric sits there and I decide whether they play nicely with each other, I am sewing two quilt tops together.

Of course thjs is in between yard work as the four days of rain have lifted and its a beautiful day in the Black Hills.

I also have one fix on my cathedral windows quilt i called the cancer quilt. This will go on the wall as a testament to keep fighting the good fight.

I hope everyone has a productive VQW!
