Perhaps something is wrong with me..I LOVE to piece a quilt ...I love quilting..but what I really don't like is ..sewing a traditional quilt that you see over and over again.....oh no!!!!!.I hope I'm not booted from here...let me explain...They are beautiful....a work of art! I admire them...I am amazed at their beauty...and those that make them....but to make one myself ?....I am not in the bit interested.,..I subscribe to all kinds of quilting magazines...and find myself flipping through the traditional looking quilts... signing..."boring"......I even made myself start a Dresden plate quilt to make myself get involved with the beauty of traditional quilts....It is sitting and I really don't like doing it...at times I think...am I really a quilter? Maybe I am too basic...I am almost finished with a quilt for my GrandDaughter...will show you this is about 2 days if I'm not shunned from this neighborhood!! :wink: ....I just sarted adding squares and strips..a few sunbonnet sues and I like it....not a " Oh my Gosh", quilt. I never do make those. Sometimes I think I am not on the same page with the rest of you that show such beautiful talent in "traditional quilting"....I have a hard time joining in on those " block of month" clubs this board has on these tried and true quilt blocks of old! I do want to, but just can't make myself do them. I guess I'm feeling guility...am I a true quilter? Sometimes I feel I'm wasting my money on these magazines when 3/4 of the "projects" are traditional quilting! How do I get over this? Do I need to get over this?

I think you are just extremely creative and are showing your uniqueness that makes us all different. Don't be ashamed EMBRACE it.

If everyone in the course of human existence only liked traditional, we'd still be lacing skins together!!

Show your creativity!!! If it makes ya happy, that's all that matters!

I think you are a talented quilter but not everyone likes the same things and that goes for quilting as well. It doesn't make you any less of a quilter just because you don't care to do traditional quilting. I like looking at quilts that would be out of my comfort zone to make but that I admire for there beauty and the creativeness of the quilter.
There are no quilt police here, enjoy doing what you do best.
Post some pics of your works of art. I'd love to see them.

I think there's room for everybody here!!! The world would be pretty boring if we all had the same ideas in our heads!!

I like traditonal, my sister likes pieced and abstract. Neither of these things makes us bad people. There are no quilt police to say what you can like and not like or what you can enjoy and what you are not allowed to enjoy. The uniqueness of this craft is that there is room for everyone's likes and dislikes. If we all liked to work on the same thing, we'd never get any new ideas or learn any new techniques. Don't put yourself down just because your creatitivity (sp) goes in a different dirction from mine. Embrace it and do what you enjoy and do best. :-)

thank you Vickie...from the time I joined this board...you have been there for me! Can I send you my magazines that have all those"boring" traditional quilt patterns in them? ha!!! :D I really thought if I could produce one of these "beauties" and like it...I was a true quilter..or a quilter with an "old Soul'?

I am kind of like you. I have started some traditional quilts but half way through I end up putting in other things and the quilts usually turn out OK. I try to experiment with a new technique everytime I design a quilt and sometimes I just start with one or two blocks and let the blocks tell me what do do next. I guess all of my quilts end up to be one of a kind.[

Catherine, I am SO on your side of the fence! Take a look at Quilting Arts Magazine sometime. I guarantee you'll like it and it will get you going in all sorts of new directions.http://www.quiltingarts.com/qamag/qahome.html I've never made a quilt from a pattern, wouldn't dream of copying some other quilter's design, and, even when using traditional blocks, my work must be unique to me alone.

Never apologize for taking the road less travelled. Up here in the north woods, that's where you'll find the very best scenery!
