These are cute. These would be perfect for the new little sewer also to have their own pincushions possibly with a bigger cap that would fit over their little hands. Love your idea! Great stocking stuffers!

Thanks everyone so much! Thought I would show you the cute pincushion given me by a friend many years ago that was my model for this. I like the idea of the cap being uncovered as you can see what bottling company it's from and the different states you can collect them from. The one I'm sending to a friend has the name of a bottling company near me in Virginia and they will like that! Here are the pics that made such a cute pincushion. This will give you ideas!

Thanks for the tutorial. I'm going to try making some. Question: Is steel wool something people use for stuffing a pincushion? I never heard of it. I'm wondering if it would tend to rust, especially since I live near the ocean. Comments ? ? ?

I don't think the steel wool will rust unless you are in a very damp moist area of the country like the East Coast or near the ocean. The fabric encasing it should be enough to keep it dry, but I would not use it since you are so near the ocean. Since it's worn on the finger, you would want the lightest weight for stuffing.
Thank you, Sew Krazy Girl! You had a great question! Hope yours turns out terrific!
For those of you who don't drink soda, you can use bottle caps from fruit juice drinks, energy drinks, etc. so explore different types of plastic containers with a deep enough lid and you've got a cute base for the pincushion!

I forgot to say for those of you who want to use crushed walnut shells in your pincushions that you can find 5 lb. bags of it at pet stores. It is supposed to really keep the pins and needles sharp, but it may leave the fabric with a dinghy color (especially if it gets wet the staining may occur).
