I'll get one in the next few days...I saw one at the Dollar Store this morning for $8.00  I might splurge and get a little better one than that...but..who knows. That is the LEAST of my issues for right now   (Nobody calls me anyway!)

the new ones at the dollar store has a blue tooth head set and car charger along with the phone and reg charger for 10 bucks/ blue tooth is wireless and you can talk hands free while sewing (i did not say driving cuz even hands free is distracting...)

Thanks for the great directions. I have trouble at times with written directions but the pictures are great. I am going to try and make some. Thanks.

You are welcome, I can't sleep at the moment, and it's only just occurred to me to check in and see if anyone was still looking at this thread.

Just came across this wonderful tut, thanks so much for taking the time to post it Lacelady. Have bookmarked it for future referance.

GeriP 02-09-2011 03:46 PM

Thanks for a wonderful tut -- it sure looks like a lot of work, but it's beautiful.

FWDesigns 05-20-2011 04:56 AM

If you do make one, please post a pic, thank you.

I finally made one and here are the pics of the same. Plan to make a couple more for gifting

I made a minor modification as this box is for sewing stuff that my daughter takes to school. I attached loops along the gussets and then threaded a cord around to make it easier for her to close the box

Butterflyspain 08-07-2011 10:52 PM

Thats gorgeous, bet you get a few orders when she takes that to school. well done I am so glad that you found this helpful

Jayashree 08-08-2011 12:31 AM

Thanks Elle.

sandpat 08-08-2011 05:46 AM

Thats a GREAT idea about the loops! Gives it kind of a "handle" to carry it with too....Cool!

Jayashree 08-08-2011 09:15 AM

Thanks

cheryl rearick 08-08-2011 09:28 AM

Butterflyspain 08-08-2011 10:20 PM

This is just what I wanted!! I will have to work out how to download the instructions so I can do it. Thank you so much for taking the time to post this, it looks beautiful! SheilaAnne

ScrapQuilter 06-07-2012 10:04 PM

Guess I am having a senior moment but either I am reading something wrong or I just don't get it but don't you need 4 hexagons for the box??? 2 for the cover and 2 for the bottom??? If I am reading the directions it is stating 3. I just love these boxes but the pattern I have is a little dif and I do like yours better. The patter I have uses 4 hexagons and 12 side pieces for the lid.......................

ScrapQuilter 06-08-2012 07:47 AM

Ohhhhhhhhh my goodness the light just come on........... can't believe I had such a mental block...... I got I got it.

quiltingcurious 06-08-2012 10:47 AM

These are so cute, love how they all turned out differently, looked like everyone enjoyed making them.

gollytwo 06-08-2012 12:11 PM

You did a beautiful job

OHSue 06-09-2012 09:48 PM

Eow those are so nice. You did a great job on your box snd on the detailed tute.

Sienna's GiGi 06-10-2012 05:45 PM

This is so neat. I wll have to try it.

SheilaAnne 07-08-2012 06:35 AM

Yes, I finally made something! I am now the very proud owner of one of these sewing boxes and it has turned out well. Thank you so much for your instructions. My sister was given one of these as a gift together with the instructions but she kept saying she would find them for me and didn't get round to it, so now with your instructions I have managed to make one! Thank you, Sheila

SheilaAnne 08-06-2012 12:11 AM

Fabric covered sewing box - thank you for the instructions!

I have now completed my fabric covered sewing box using these instructions and am delighted with it! I will convert the measurements to make a smaller box and a larger one - it seems to work out that the hexagon sides on the top and bottom, and therefore, the sides, measures the same as the radius of the circle. That is, if you want a 10" box, then the hexagon and sides would measure 5", on a 6" box, the hexagon adn sides woudl measure 3". The height of the sides can be whatever you want. I hope I am correct in my maths but this box lends itself to many other uses - jewellry, makeup, mini layette for a new baby and so on. Thank you so much for this, and good luck to anyone who has a go - I have very little sewing experience and this box is mainly sticking with Pritt stick and PVA glue with very little sewing. As you can see, I did not make the little pockets - not enough material! I also padded both sides of the lid and the edges so it gave it a more luxurious feel.

gollytwo 08-06-2012 12:31 AM

You did a beautiful job.
I had the kit and, like BlueChicken, could not make any sense of the instructions.
Am grateful that a good friend could and made it up for me.

lizzy 08-23-2012 04:45 AM

Would love to try to make one of these, but would need someone by my side leading me on! All of the boxes are beautiful. Thank you for all the pictures in your tutorial.

Tashana 08-28-2012 09:43 AM

Many years ago I made a similar box for my mom. It was called Victorian sewing box. I used a glue gun and remember burning my fingers since I did not use clothes pins. I put a fabric covered button in the middle of the lid and tied vintage lookin tassel on it. Since my box was square I added brass corners to it. My mom still uses it today. Yor box is very beautiful. Great work. Thank you for posting the tutorial. I think I will make a few of your boxes for Christmas presents.

Tashana 08-28-2012 09:48 AM

I just remember something. I think, I am not sure, that lady who thought me added extra batting on the bottom of the inner box and used it as a pin cushion. I am so going to get my stuff out and make one today. THANK YOU for getting my creative juices going. You rock!

fluffynan 08-05-2013 02:50 AM

Just found this thread yesterday when researching ideas for using poster board with fabric. Have read all 36 pages and really look forward to making one of these. Thank you so much for such a detailed tutorial and what beautiful boxes everyone has made.

primitivejan 08-05-2013 05:01 PM

I love this. Going to have to make one for sure. Great tutorial. Thanks. :-)

Gualda 03-26-2014 11:50 AM

I have just discovered this forum. Can you tell me how I can get the instructions to make one of these beautiful boxes? Thanks
