I donīt have one of those but the are cheap enough to buy so will get one as it bugs me that one side. Thanks for the tip. As I am making another two for friends this will be just the job.

Ok somehow I lost this thread and Elle reminded me of it this week, so here is to all the ladies I missed complimenting.
Elle, all three of your gift boxes are lovely and I am sure that the girls never noticed any mistake. I love your box too, it came out beautiful!
Pat I love how your box came out, purple, white and green are my favorite color combos.
Brush you also did a beautiful job on your boxes for Christmas presents. Did you wait until Christmas to give them? LOL
Well LaceLady your tutorial seems to be a hit with us all. I have bookmarked the tutorial and have to get a couple of projects out of the way before I try it myself. But you can be sure I will because they are beautiful!!!

Charlee 01-21-2010 07:37 PM

I've been biding my time until I get the cardboard to do this with...and then it dawned on me...I have a TON of the large flat rate boxes from the Post Office...use them for my ebay sales! I'll be starting one tonight! :D

Butterflyspain 01-22-2010 01:14 AM

Look forward to it Cherlee

Chrickett 01-22-2010 07:11 AM

I have my cardboard cut out and my material picked , now to just get started, I used two sheets of card stock, it was easier for me to cut out, I hope it will hold up If any of you think not please let me know. I have to get som poly batting, for the inside. I hope all of you have a wonderful day.

Don't forget you need enough to pad the lid too.

Don't tell the Post Office, LOL.

They just said that I couldn't use them to mail anything other than priority mail via USPS...they didn't say "Don't make a sewing box with them!!" And...to be honest...the large flat rates, after I checked them, won't make the 8" circle without a fold seam in them...~sigh~ So I'm going to steal the cardboard off of the boss' desk blotter! ~grin~

I presume that is because the boss didn't say not to use it for a sewing box too?

Charlee 01-22-2010 09:42 PM

Uh-Huh!

Chrickett 01-23-2010 10:15 AM

This is my last 2 boxes, thats 6 I have made and I think thats quite enough. This time I used the lovely material Lesley sent me 2 fat quarters not quite enough to make it the way shown but I think they came out pretty good, a bit different. Just have the two pockets and on one of them there is a place for needles.
This was a great Tute Lesley thanks

The last 3 were really appreciated, so I was happy with that. I am sure the other two will be well received as well. I am happy with my box, its just the right size for the Jane Stickle project the blocks fit nicely.

sandpat 01-29-2010 04:11 PM

Elle, those are really pretty ones! I can't make up my mind which of yours is my fav...they are all so pretty! I like the black inside, it makes it look very rich.. :D

brushandthimble 02-18-2010 05:31 AM

I have had a request for some explanation about the stitch I use to sew on the band to the box lid.

I used some of my Elmer's glue to hold the band in place (ironed to set the glue). I just used a minimum of glue on the doubled part of each side of the band, but it was enough to keep it in place while I did the stitching.

I held the flat top of the box towards my body, I am right handed, and after I had hidden the knot on the thread, I took a tiny stitch into the edge of the box top, towards me. Then, after pulling the thread through, I took a tiny bite into the band, exactly opposite where the thread was coming from, but again with the needle towards me, but bringing the needle out onto the box top, about an eigth of an inch to the left of the first stitch. So the only thread that might be visible should be the tiny stitch going from box lid straight across to the band. When the thread is pulled taut, this should be minimal.

I don't have one of those boxes handy, but I have taken a few pics to illustrate what I am trying to say, on another box. I have used a contrasting thread, with two strands, so that you can see the stitches. I believe if you use a single, matching thread, they shouldn't show much at all.

thread from 'box lid' to 'band' and back to 'box lid'

Needle pulled through, but not tightened

Tighten stitch, and make another.

Good for you. Butterfly Spain has had a request for a class from her quilty friends. It was so oversubscribed, she is splitting it into two, and I am really looking forward to seeing what they all produce.

sandpat 06-09-2010 04:39 PM

Oh, you know they will be beautiful coming from that group!

I will take pics. Tute is on the 22nd June, got it all set up, have had to find some shoe boxes for the girls, loads were flat shoes here because of the bad road and hills so their shoe boxes are tiny, but have found a source of other boxes which are just the job.

brushandthimble 06-10-2010 04:04 AM

ButterflySpain,

Sounds like alot of fun! Will be waiting for the pictures.:)
