Beautiful!!! You did a great tute. I'm going to make this next week after I can get back into my sewing room.

Excellent! Thanks for sharing!

I'm a visual learner and you did an amazing job on explaining this. Thank you so much.
Thank you! Going to be digging through my stash and hope to make a couple of these after I finish the quilt I'm working on. It's really nice of you to take the time to make this tutorial. How were the pear pies?
Thank you for doing this . I think I can follow these as well. So I need to get some material and make some for christmas gifts. Thank you!
Thank you, I'm adding this to my favorites. Love it!

Very good! This looks like the Less than Traditional Pattern Quilter's Haven has the templates small and large also a video for sale on www.quiltershaven.net if you would like to buy the rulers and video called Quilting with charlie. I made these last year for presents and they turned out great. Lots of fun. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the tutorial! Here's mine. :) I "cheated" a little on the add-on petals. Instead of leaving an opening for turning them, I cut a small slit (about 1.25") in the back side of the fabric, on the end that goes near the flower's center, and turned them that way. The slit gets covered up and stitched down, so it doesn't show, and I didn't have to hand-stitch any openings closed. :) I think this would be pretty with a gold flower on ivory fabric (or vice versa), too.

This was a fun distraction this morning. I happen to love mug rugs, so thought I would go small. I pretty much failed, but I still like it
Had to take these with my phone, so quality is so so Anyway, next I decided I would try the "big girl" one, but really only wanted to do 7-inch circles because for some reason I have a lot of scrap that size. On both, I sewed down the scalloped borders. So I made this trivet size one for a girlfriend of mine. Apparently I am not the best at following directions. The center looked bad, so I gave it a new center. Thanks a bunch for sharing this with us! |
:thumbup:I think they turned out great! I really like the colours you used and how you arranged your petals.
This is really beautiful. Makes a difference with the extra leaves and your stitching on them. Thanks for sharing
This is a really great tute and thanks Tartan for showing us how to do this. Like everyone else's creations, too. Hope I can get one of these made by December.
Thanks so much for the tutorial. They are so much fun to make. Love the idea of using different colors, Red/Green for Christmas, white/blue for snowflakes, oh my goodness, I could go on with more ideas. Have made red/green and white/green, now as my mind goes on, I need to get to my sewing room while the brain is hot...so many ideas that need to be acted on. Happy sewing/quilting today!!
Wow!! These look so neat!! Can't wait to try making one. This would be a great thing to make totes out of too.
I like this idea. You did a good job, thanks.

Cookie64, thanks for the link. I bought her templates and video at the quilt show a few years ago. Every year I stop by to see what new things she has.
Thanks for the tut. I can't wait to make one. I love poinsettias and this will look pretty on my table and make nice gifts.
Love your runner, and your instructions are great and easy to follow

Just a quick question before I do this wrong, maybe! Do you cut the batting the same as the circle, or cut the batting the size including the seam allowance?
I place the 2 fabric layers together and draw all my circles and leaf shapes but leave enough space between the shapes for adding the seam allowance. I sew around the petal shapes without batting first.
I then place batting under the circles and sew around the circles on the marked line. The batting is included in the stitching line and is trimmed to the same 1/4 inch seam allowance as the fabric above it. The stitching keeps the batting in place when you turn your circles. |

If your fabrics are directional, make sure you cut the slit for turning the circles in the correct side position. The 4 circles all need the slit to be in the center where you will be doing the fold over.
When you mark to match up the pairs to sew together, mark only on the L shape sides that go to the center. Since the other sides of the circle go to the outside and don't have a fold over, you don't want pencil marks out there. |
What size circles do you use in the first place? I love your tutorial.
I made an entire reversible quilt this way..... it is an awesome way to make circles!!!!
