What size circles do you use in the first place? I love your tutorial.

I will try and get a closer picture of the measurements but if you still can't see them....the TRACING circle is 8 and 1/2 inches and seam allowances need to be added which makes the cutting size 9 inches. I used this size because my 6 inch square fitted inside the sewing line for me to mark the stitching lines when sewing the circles together.

Tartan, when I made my poinsettia, I used fusible batting. I cut it to fit just inside the stitching line, laid it so that the fusible side would end up next to the side to be slit, and just lightly pressed the iron to about 2/3 of it. Then, after slitting the fabric and turning it, I pressed the whole thing and the fusible batting almost sealed the slit. Just FYI an easy way of doing this step. Thanks again for a wonderfully clear and concise tutorial.

thanx, there's a couple of xmas presents done!!

Ninepatch 11-13-2014 03:42 PM

If you remember to stop 1 stitch before the point and just take a hop over to begin sewing the other side at same spot. In all sorts as sewing and quilting use this technique for points and I get them. Theory is that the space created by just that one stiitch gives well trimmed seam allowance somewhere to go. You'll get a point instead of a ball. HTH

I think msqc has as does back porch templates and I think EB too! Just search orange peel or new cathedral window template or tute......
