Someone posted to this thread that they would like a tutorial in English. I thought I would give it a try.
When I stacked them, I placed them on my cutting board and used the lines to place them at 1/2" intervals.
I tried to place the top fold of the stack as close to the center of the background as possible.
Thanks QuiltnNan for the tip.

Could a person do this smaller say like with a 4 1/2" square and if so, then how big would the foundation piece need to be?

OH...my dearest MIL did the same thing - and it looked SO HARD. This is certainly a star to reach for.

THANKS !!

Oh Wow!!! Thanks for the tutorial. I saw this before and thought I'd never be able to do it. Now that I've seen this I believe I can. Yours looks beautiful. Thanks again, and again.

I too was wondering if you could use say charm packs for this.

I would love to see pictures of everyones flowers. This is a great project. And I can't wait to start on mine. Thank-You so much for this project. You did a excellent job showing how this is done.

I learned to make a folded star Christmas ornament a couple of years ago that is a lot like this idea except you pin the fabrics onto a Styrofoam ball with dozens of pins. The ball is a special high density one so it can handle all the pins without falling apart.

knlsmith 04-22-2011 02:05 PM

Wow! Gonna do one asap! Thanks a bunch!

quilterguy27 04-22-2011 02:07 PM

I love this. One more thing to add to the to do list. Thanks!

Wow, FANTASTIC tutorial/directions!!! I had to try it this morning. A little tip: the last color (green one) is going to be the fabric between the arms of the star. I should have made it a darker blue or maybe the same as the fabric that I am going to put this with on the front panel of a tote. . I also took a little stitch in the bottom of each petal once it was folded, seemed to need it to keep it in place.

Thank you so much dungeonquilter!!!! Great job with the explanation.

First try with some scraps!

I can only suggest that you give it a try and see how it works out. You probably would have to move the folds closer together. The size depends on the measurement from the top of the stack to the bottom of the stack times 2 plus maybe 3-4 inches.

These are so awesome !

0tis 04-27-2011 07:25 PM

Thanks for the tute - I am making one right now - its really cute but it is very bulky - I think I am going to make it into a throw pillow - but I think it might be a weapon as heavy as it is. Doesn't matter though because its so darn cute. :)

Otis..........please show it to us when you are done. I am making mine into the front panel of a tote. Just need to get some handles on and turn it and I can post a picture. What colors did you use? That is where I have the most problem, choosing fabrics that coordinate. :)

ILOVECOLORS 04-28-2011 10:56 AM

I wanna do it...I wanna do it....did i mention I wanna do it?

Here is a pic - I had an awful time picking fabrics - just finally tossed some together - I think I want to use the same colorway next time. Anyway, it is very puffy in the middle - I think it could be made with less fabrics and still look good. I still love it this way - I think I will make a floor pillow out of it.

side view - puffy

BATIKQLTR 04-28-2011 11:54 AM

Otis.........it is gorgeous!! It will make a beautiful pillow. I know what you mean about being puffy........I am not using any batting behind it for the tote. I'm going to try it with folding the "petals" once. It won't make as deep a point, but might make it lay a little flatter. Just a thought..........but it is a beautiful (and fun) project!!

Thanks for posting................Love your view from the window.

how far apart are the fabrics layered in the stack?

Terricat 05-04-2011 07:50 PM

Any reason why a person can't make it an INCH or INCH and one-half? It will just be Larger, right???

BATIKQLTR 05-04-2011 08:21 PM

Having them an inch or more, might make it a little less bulky. And we might have a whole new design..........;)

Terricat 05-04-2011 08:25 PM

Well OK then, I'm ON it. Have to be out of town for 2 days, perhaps I can post the "new creation" on Saturday or Sunday. I have a selection of fall colors, so . . . we'll see . . .

I sort of tried this - you have to consider the distance between each layer to be folded. I am not talking about the layered fabrics - but after you have sewn the layers onto the backing and you start your folding - you have to make sure that the folds will overlap or else you will get empty spots between - I hope that makes sense.

BATIKQLTR 05-05-2011 07:23 AM

It does! ;)

We will have to cut the squares larger I think. But that still might cause bulk. Maybe rectangles for the folded pieces..............Thx for trying this for us.
