I have been thinking about joining for days. I have so much on my plate, but I keep hearing Dear Jane calling me. So I am all in. I have been looking for something special to submit to our county fair and DJ is perfect. I am new to the Quilting Board so I will need your help navigating.

I am going to be joining up too... I have about 80 blocks finished and about 50 of those hand quilted (done the LaceLady way) maybe if Ijoin up with y'all, it might be enough to motivate me to finish...

LOL. It will have to be the 2013 County Fair. I will finish one of my current UFO's for 2012. I tend to be a perfectionist and critical of my own work, which tends to slow me down. Having said that I love the process.

Thanks for posting the link Cre...I do it the way the tute suggested. I DO baste my pieces because when you baste it on the line, the fabric wants to turn under on that same line when you are trying to needleturn it. I usually just use the window as my light box to trace my shape on the background fabric. It is really easy and with the small pieces in this quilt, it really helps. Well, it really helped me...hope it works for you as well.

I'm in! I watched the back basting but have a question. I've never done needle-turn applique so forgive my ignorance ... but how do you know how much to turn under as your appliqueing the piece down? There's not a crease or anything to use as a guide?
Thanks, Suzy
Thanks, Suzy

Thats what I was referring to Suzy....if you actually BASTE it like the video shows you, then when you undo a couple of stitches, the piece will want to turn on that basting line. After you baste, kinda run your thumbnail around the piece to crease it slightly... You'll want to trim around the outside of the piece~ outside basting stitches, leaving about maybe 1/8"...the mistake that I made for years was leaving too much seam allowance. It makes it harder to turn and then it doesn't turn smoothly either.
