Yes, i, too, remember those little irons....and yes, I, too, had the job of ironing all the hankies in our house. I thought I was so grown up and important because my mom let me do this important household chore.

    Thanks for the great memory.

Oh wow - I had a beauty shop doll with the beauty shop chair and the dryer that went over her head. She was great fun - until I cut her head, that was the end of the curls. I also had "Suzy Smarts". She had her school desk and there was a button on her stomach that said "1 + 1 is 2." She had a record that went in her side and changed the subject. They were pretty tall. So my parents got rid of them when I went off to college in 1972. They were great fun.

I remember wanting the toy iron so badly. But like others have said, by the time I was six, I was doing real ironing, and didn't need a toy. Started indeed with hankies moving on to what Mom called the flats: table cloths, pillow cases. Then aprons, then finally dress and shirts. Dad wore white shirts to work, and he would pay the girls 15 cents each to iron his shirts., after all he would have to pay the laundry 75 cents, so it was a bargain. By the time I was 10, I did all my own ironing, plus the ironing for "the babies" (my siblings under age 5), and a 3rd of the household ironing.

I had one of those irons and one of my sisters had a great little oven that really worked (and not the easy bake ones).

I never had an iron OR the oven. But boy, did I want an Easy-Bake oven. I dunno, just something about making those little cakes.... Now I am grown and bake whenever I want!!
