I am almost 50. When I was young, I was a legal secretary, then a mom.. then single again at 35.. became a successful realtor.. then at 40.. disabled.. at 45 a kitty rescue founder.. now again at 48.. having to .. reinvent myself and finding.. I am SURE tired of doing this. I know I am not alone. I struggle.. where does the strength come from to start over.. again. Each time I think TADA I did it.. and now I am doing it again. Surely someone else has had to do this too? I am not feeling self pitty but true wonder at how many times do we have to do this in our lives? a lesson to be learned each and every time. Rather be done with school myself but maybe that is what life is.. a huge lesson to be learned.

Yes, constantly. I have had several "careers" and have had to become new many times...

Hey, we live near each other. I'm in Pleasant Hill! I grew up in San Jose, still have lots of friends there!

No, you aren't alone (your life/time line is similar to mine!). Change and flexibility are the stock in trade for survivors. I wouldn't change any of it for a second (even the less than fabulous bits). What doesn't kill you makes you stronger....and look on the bright side, we are very entertaining dinner guests, always a story to tell!

country Western song, Patty Loveless How Can I Help You Say Goodby.. gets me everytime. I was the kid in a 59 wagon waving at my best friend saying good by..

quote from the song.. Life's about changing nothing ever stays the same
    ...

Yep, you pull up your self esteem, your courage by the boot straps and march on.

I get tired of marching on. Some of my days it is in a wheel chair. parkinson's thing going on.

Was in an intersection car crash this past June. Survived well, could have been much worse. But, then again. I am going backwards in my mobility and have not sewn since.

Yep, Life's about changing nothing ever stays the same
... You just keep leaning forward and you have no choice, put a foot down or fall.

So sorry to see you are having to reinvent yourself. It stinks, then come the surprises that make you smile.

    Good luck.

It is painful isn't it?? My mantra is the Serenity Prayer, the key words being acceptance and courage. I pray this many times a day in various situations, after a bit, it works.

well...don't think of it as a burden, think of it as an opportunity for growth. Twenty years ago you probably wouldn't have thought to do (or wanted to do) what you are doing now.

Routine is good in some ways but not forever. Change works wonders for your emotional well-being and gives you insight into other things. Fundamentally I'll bet your the same, just your interests have changed - nothing wrong with that!

Yes, I have had to, too. I was divorced at 35, widowed at 51, among other things. It IS hard but I learned early on to look at every new experience as just that...an experience, a challenge. It's what keeps us going.....think of it as making life more interesting instead of being in a boring old rut.

    Best of luck!!!

You never know what is going to happen tomorrow... I have had many twists and turns in my life, so I stop and regroup and then move forward. I think that having a positive attitude, being able to be flexible, and realizing change is inevitable, has helped me to be as happy with my life as I can. It also gives me the ability to wake up and greet each new day with a smile on my face.
