I know some of you ladies here do sewing other than quilting and here is my question:

I bought a T-shirt today with something on it but they didn't have the size for my g-sons sooooo....I bought another shirt their size and want to make an applique out of what is on the wrong size shirt and applique to the correct size. They are t-shirt material and I am gonna use wonder under to attach the design and then satin stitch around that. Is this the way you would do it? Do you think it will look okay?

Make sure that you get the wonder under that won't gum up your machine. You need the kind that you can sew through.

You will also need a stableizer on the inside of the shirt.

If it's a large motif, I think Wonder Under will make it too stiff for t-shirt fabric. I would probably use Steam-a-Seam Lite instead.

You would need a stabilizer under the t-shirt to keep it from moving around on you while sewing. I'm not sure what would be the best kind to use, though.

Interesting idea! I saw some t-shirts that would have been great for my sons but they were for very young children. I never would have thought of this. Thanks :-) :-)

I saw directions once for painting on a T Shirt. It said to put a sheet of cardboard, wrapped in foil, INSIDE the shirt and smooth it over it and then pin carefully, being sure not to stretch the fabric.

Seems to me that might be the first step in putting on the Wonder Under or whatever you use with the picture or whatever it is you want on it. Make sure it is in the correct place before ironing. Then when cool you can do the sewing.

And thanks for the idea of using a smaller sized dohickey for the front of the T Shirt. I have some around here that I can do that with. Never thought of it. I think I want to put 3 pictures on it that write out my name!!! The third one will be a bird in flight.

Be sure to use the stabilizer. Very important.

If like heat and bond light better then the steam a seam because after you apply the the applique it feels mush softer.
