Just as emerald 46 described a friend of mine had family members they tried to scam. Someone called the grandma and told her the grand son away at college was ill and needed $ to go to dr. She knew he would have called his folks first and not her as she had a limited income. She called the Dad who arranged to speak with the scammer. Guess they never caught him.
We all have to be so careful.
    Good reminders.

I list on Craigslist all the time and no matter how small the item, the scammers always hit me, I can tell by the first line if they are legit or not and just report them as spam so I don't get anymore messages from them.

I love the ones that say they want my item but they are on a trip and can't get it just now so a friend will be handling the sale and so on and so forth.

Once you know you are being scammed, don't reply, it's tempting to, i want to call them jerks, but continued response can set you up for other problems, you don't want them to have ANY information about you.

This scam has been around for a long time. I am very cautious and never meet alone with anyone and never at night. Craigslist warns you about most of the scams when you list something. I've had the junk emails but prefer that to giving out my cellphone number.

I always meet in a public place and take my husband along. I have also gotten the "money order" types of responses so I set up a "craigslist" email with a non-identifying email address - only used for responding to Craigslist replies. I also stated that I will only deal with local folks. You can not be too careful.

Same thing happened to me except he said he would send check and then the mover would come pick up the motor we were selling. I replied that I do not accept checks and that his mover could bring cash when picking up motor. I would be glad to give receipt. Never heard another word!!

yeah, there is a Husqvarna DIAMOND package... going for $2500 near me... they are listing whole package plus plus plus, saying selling due to medical reasons. Here's the weird part... the WHOLE ad is done in a photoshop type program, like a flyer to paste on multiple CL town listings... no type at all, just the graphic with pictures etc. and it doesn't list where its located, or a phone number... only a gmail account, and they tell you to send them their address so they can calculate postage... scary.

I thought about contacting them, but they are wanting immediate payment etc etc... Buyer beware, be careful out there ladies!

I had that happen to me several years ago. When she told me she send a check for an amount way over what was owned I smelled a rat and sure enough it was a scam. When I took it to the bank to check it out they spied the fraud right away by looking at the bank code. I never was out of the money .

UGH....I hate people who spend all their time trying to figure out a way to take things from other people. Keep your guard up ladies and gents! There are some real scummy people out there!
