You did the right thing, my husband was selling a car on Ebay and we got a MO but to the tune of $10,000 turned out to be a scam too. Didn't allow ourselves to get caught in that

Thanks for the heads up...too bad these folks don't use their "talents" for good instead of trying to get over.

I would have mailed him Monopoly money.
(but never cash his check which was no good to you)

I have placed many items on craigs list and received what I consider "phishing expeditions." You can mark it as such on your email server. Even craigs list places a warning on the message. I too have encountered odd requests such as "I cannot come pick up the item but will send others to do so; I'll put the check in the mail..." I rarely respond to these, nor do I take my ad down since legitimate buyers eventually show up. Isn't it a shame that it seems you have to be so cautious and less trusting these days. Hope you finally sell your bed to a good customer.

My mom almost got scammed. Thank goodness DH spotted it. Scammer had the audacity to tell her she ruined his good name and reputation. Of course, being elderly, she felt guilty about that.

I am so sorry for your bad experience, but at least you had enough sense to smell a scam. Good for you. Next time list it as $100 as is, where is, you come pick it up.

Good for you not falling for that scam. It's sad that some people will try to fraud someone else out of their hard earned money. If they would put as much effort into a real job then we wouldn't have the problems we have today.

It makes it real hard for us honest people out in the world, everyone is leary. It is to bad that people have to be that way. But we don't live in a prefect world.
