Hi, im Dan, and i was recently adopted by a White FR sewing machine. Previously ive taken in by several singers of various ages and conditions. I still love my Singer collection, however, this White machine is very intriguing to me. I cant find and history, documents, records of this one. She's embossed from what i can tell , in the singer world she'd be crinkle or godzilla finish. I could talk about her all day, but for now, im stuck. Thru the process of cleaning and lubricating the mechanical side if things, ive found everything to be in great working order with a touch of penetrating oil and gun cleaning oil. Ive gotten her to sew perfectly. The light does not work!! the bulb is new and when i remove the assembly from the motor junction, hard wire it directly to a wall outlet, it works, the motor runs normally from the wall outlet thru the foot pedal at variable speeds, when i add the lamp wire to the motor junction, no light, the motor still works fine. If theres a forum i could be recommended to I would be eternally grateful.

From the sounds of your machine you have an "embossed White" like the one pictured embossed White machines From my research it is dated around 1930. The vintage forum on Quilting Board is at https://www.quiltingboard.com/vintag...thusiasts-f22/

Maybe Leon can help you in the morning regarding the wiring. It appears your wiring may be different from any of my White machines.

Since you said it sews great, I'm guessing that you have already figured out the hand wheel goes the opposite direction from Singers. Did you get a manual with it?

Also it sounds that the direct drive rubber doesn't have a flat spot like many of these machines tend to get. It is recommended that one puts something between the motor and the machine so that the rubber does not rest on the hand wheel when the machine is not in use.

Does you junction look like this? Sometimes a wire may disconnect inside one. But drat it, they are often riveted shut.

Leon, I don't think the Embossed White has that type of wiring. I think it has the two connectors that go through the back bed of the machine. It may be possible that there is a three flat pin connector, also.

Dan are you talking this kind of embossing? or more like the crinkle finishes? Pictures must be tiny to be used here.

Welcome for SE Michigan. Congratulations on your new White Machine. Mine has the same godzilla finish as yours does.

Welcome from SE Michigan! I have a White 77 (1938) It has a flat godzilla type finish too IMHO with no embossing. The strangest thing is the tension. Just plain strange. The machine works well however no complaint. When I got it I oiled it in all the standard places and it is as quiet as a church mouse.
