I was at Joann's yesterday, looking for something to use up a coupon on, and I found something interesting!

June Tailor brand Stencil Marking Spray. It's...well, I don't know, I haven't used it yet, but I gather it's some sort of sprayable chalk-like...stuff??

After I bought it I went online to look at reviews and only found one bad one on Joann's site. Anybody ever use this stuff? I love June Tailor rulers but never used anything else from that brand. Not sure if I just wasted five bucks or not but I thought it'd be worth experimenting with.

I have never seen this...if you try it be sure to let us know if it works well and more importantly does it wash out completely.

oFirst I've heard if it. As with any new product, do scrap testing before using it on a quilt.

I have never seen that brand. I used another brand a couple of years ago. It was a messy process. The spray built up on the stencil and cracked and got all over. It also rubbed off as I quilted so I guess I shouldn't have marked the entire quilt at once. It was a little bit expensive as I think I used an entire can on 1 quilt and didn't quite have enough.
This is a different brand than I used. I hope it works well as I thought the other spray was a good idea if it had worked well. I will be interested to hear if this works as marking a quilt to quilt it is one of my least favorite steps in the process.

I tried it and be very careful as it runs and makes a mess. At least mine did.

I was at Hancock's some time last year and they had some kind of stencil marking spray, but I didn't get any to try, since it was (to me) very expensive (almost $20), but for $5 I would probably try it.

Spray stenciling is a real mess, have to clean your template so often. I rather use the dusting chalk marking .

I was reading a quilt book the other day (sorry, have no clue which) and the author said to use hairspray on the area you are going to stencil, use the chalk and then use hairspray again. Let it dry and go to the next area. I have never done this but it sounds great if you are going to wash the quilt when finished (which was suggested).

I've used it and I like it. But, it's like most work we quilters do: It needs quality prep time. If preparation is done right, i.e. fabric is flat, stencil is secured, you are in an open and ventilated area, etc. it is great! I find it much easier to use than a marker. I hope you give it a try since you have purchased it. And let us know how you like it.
