    Default Advice needed, please

I am going to make a quilt with pattern"Remember Me" by Villa Rosa Designs . Directions call for cutting 6 7/8" squares, cutting them diagonally, and sewing the triangles.
Two questions: 1) Would 7' squares work as well? Does it impact only the size or the design also?
    2) Would another method of half-square triangles work as well?
    Thanks.

As long as the HST units are the size the pattern calls for, iIMO, it does not matter how you make them.

When making HST's, I cut the squares to an even inch measurement - in your case, yes 7", place the two fabrics RS together. Draw a line diagonally in the center of the square and sew 1/4" on either side. Cut after sewing. This way you are not dealing with bias edges during the sewing. Usually need some trimming but find mine are more accurate this way.

I too do my HSTs the way NJ Quilter described and then trim. While it takes a few minutes longer they are not distorted and I know they are the exact size I need.

Oh that 7/8 measurement. I avoid it also. I make it larger then square up. Works for me.

I have this ruler and it is the best thing ever for HSTs. All the markings are in 7/8! No oversizing needed. https://www.creativegridsusa.com/products/CGR78

I add the extra 1/8"' and sometimes have nothing to trim, so I always add it. I like the 2 squares together method mentioned above.

mpepperm37, one more ruler helps with the HST, is called Bloc Loc and you can find it with a google search. I have one I would not trade for all the tea in Texas. Also have their flying geese ruler template. It squares up the HST the best that I know of in quilting. I meet them in Des Monies, Iowa, AQS and bought mine then. Never been sorry, they were worth every penny.

Most things get best results when made a tad bigger than trimmed down. I am with everyone else, add 1/8" and trim after sewing.
