I have pieced KF's Bordered Diamonds for my king size bed. Dimensions: 112" (w) x 105" (l). I have discovered after squaring it up that I would like it to be 12" wider but no longer. Arrrrgh How would any of you go about fixing this? Would it be totally weird to add only side borders?

Yes, you could add only side borders. Once it's on the bed, most people mostly notice the top and the side that is facing them.

Can you add another picture of how the side edge is right now?

Could you add another vertical row to make it wider?

the rows are diagonal. I would have to do soooo much unpicking and sewing to add a vertical row. I don't want to do that! lol I would rather create some kind of cool border...maybe little diamonds? flying geese? random left over strips? The blue bedspread and stripes below are my current bedspread and dust ruffle so disregard them. Can you spy the Kaffe Fassett fabrics? lol

I think I would add side and bottom border. The upper edge you could pill up and over the pillows. Beautiful quilt and fabrics.

I say yes. Add the side borders. They won't be noticed. And yes, I was drooling over the Kafe Fasset fabrics. I want a big collection of 1/2 yards for Christmas. And you pattern is perfect to showcase his fabrics.

Thanks for the advice and compliments. I am frozen with indecision. Yes to the border on the sides....but now what do I make the border look like? Plain fabric?

Just thinking. Does the other side go down as far as that one? What if you finished the quilt as it is, and after it was quilted and bound added a slightly ruffled or pleated border of dark blue to each side. Too weird?

It appears that you have a footboard on the bed, so I think side borders only would be just fine. As to fabric choices, perhaps black if that is the color of the buttons on your headboard or possibly one of the other solid colors within your headboard if you are keeping that fabric??? But yes, I would go with a solid. There are so many other beautiful prints - large & small within your quilt, I think they would stand out better with a solid border.

Thanks NJ. I'm going to redo the headboard to a solid white and painting the walls a medium gray. I think you are right. A solid 5 or 6" border just on the sides. Less sewing and fuss and no distraction. This has been on my design wall and in the sewing process for 9 months so I am anxious to finish it and get it off to the LAQ so I can get the room finished.

You can add borders any place you want, no rules. Beautiful quilt, love those beautiful prints, and this design sets them off nicely.
