I adjusted my chair (office type) and that helped mine feel better.

hope you find a good long term solution to your aching back while sewing.

Get up every half hour, stretch, do something else, and then go back to sewing. If your back starts to really bother you and sewing is a job not a joy....quit for the day. Your body is telling you to rest, you've done enough for awhile... :?

Perhaps we should alternate from the right foot to the left foot several times during the day. Also with the newer machines, the foot pedals are much lower to the floor.

Because of my disabilities with my back I can't sew very long at a time. I change from cutting, ironing & sewing alot. I can't sit or stand too long at a time. Love the whole process so guess it doesn't matter how I do it. I just do it!!

I have had back problems for a number of years but for about a year now my neck has been giving me fits to the point where I was procrastinating about sitting at my sewing machine. :-( Sure can't get any projects done that way. :hunf:

Well since I've been following this board the last couple of months I got the idea to raise my sewing table using bed risers and I must tell you completing my last marathon project was much less painful.

I've had my sewing table too low for years!

I have degenerative disc disease in my spine and have learned to do many things in moderation. Just stopping one quilting, sewing, cutting job and switch to another helps relieve the pain of staying in one position for any length of time. I rather stop and switch activities than not be able to the things I enjoy for weeks on end because I didn't want to listen to my body.

Just keep on keeping on...Andie :-)

I sure do. I try lots of cushions to sit on and bought one of those back things at the quilt show. Seems to help.
