Easier way to Dresden?

This is only kind of related but I just saw this & thought it was such a "wow" that I thought I'd share it. Below is a picture of a Dresden variation called "Tropical Leis" & the link to the blog where I found it. Isn't it downright yummy??? Yeah... I'm gonna have to make this one!

I baste each petal under before I sew them together. Then I just top stitch them onto a background. I use a flat yoyo but you could baste under the inside end and topstitch that also.
I also like to use a herringbone stitch to sew along the edge and it catches all the raw edge without turning the edge under.

www.craftsy.com ... go to quilting and go to the free BOM and go to July. She is doing Dresdens. She shows two ways of doing them. The first way is the traditional way, but the second way is so modern and I love it. It is very easy and different from any dresden I've ever seen before. Check it out...it might be worth your while!!

I just finished doing the July Craftsy BOM Dresden Plate. I thought it was very easy; but the traditional block has the pointed petals. After seeing the pictures posted here, I want to try the curved petals. Thanks for all the information.

Did you have trouble getting your points pointy? Mine always seem kind of blunted. I've tried using a stiletto to poke the tips out but then they come unsewn. I just wondered if anyone else had this issue, too?

I have only made the pointed Dresden blades. Have had no problem with the points doing it Jenny Doan and Craftsy teacher's way. Right sides together, sew across the wide end, barely snip the corner, turn, sharpen point gently with tip of scissors, make sure seam is centered and gently press blade.
Sounds difficult but truly it isn't.
