I am a novice when it comes to beading. I am working on a project now that will have beaded "eyes" on the center block. There will be at least 30 "eyes". I do not have a clue when to add the beads - before or after I quilt. How will I be able to add the beads if it is quilted without going through all layers. I will be hand quilting and the project should be about 30" square. The center square, about 16" on the diagonal, is where I will be beading. Where do I begin? I need your help!

I add beads after it's quilted. Some add before to keep the thread from showing on the back. You just have to dodge them when quilting.

If you're hand quilting, it seems to me it would be prety easy to only take a bite of the top and maybe backing without going all the way thru. I've never done it myself, but if you angled the needle just right....I bet you could make up a small square to see what happens before you quilt just to see how easy or hard it would be.

I would do the beading before the quilting, before you make the sandwich. It hides the knots. Would love to see what you are working on.

I would add the beads last. You can bury the knots from sewing them on like you do with hand quilting. Make your knot and pop it into the batting :wink: Then you don't have to worry about catching the beads in your foot while quilting :D:D:D
