I use the cut-out area in my sewing table. I had a piece of glass cut big enough to place over the hole, had the edges smoothed so I wouldn't cut myself. I put a lamp on the floor. It's bigger than a light box, so I can do a bigger area of the quilt at a time.

I have a light box that I bought on sale, but the one I like the most is one that I made from a computer scanner. The scanner didn't print, etc. It was just a scanner and you might find one for 50 cents at a garage sale or thrift store. Take it apart, velcro a small fluorescent light into it and you've got a cheap, efficient light box. Another option is a kitchen or bathroom cabinet drawer that you empty out for a few hours (it probably needs cleaning anyway) put a trouble light in the bottom, a piece of glass on top and trace away. froggyintexas

You could use the lite brite if you get a piece of opaque plexi-glass for the front.

I used my coffee table. Use any piece you have with glass in it, and just put a light under it. It works great.

Light Boxes are very easy to build if you have a saw and a hammer. I built mine and put a flourescent light in it with a piece of plexiglass on top of. it It works fine.
