Went to a JoAnn store yesterday to get fabric. I mentioned something about all the prices going up, and she asked if I'd noticed the width shrinking? I said no. She said that now some bolts are 40-42" wide now instead of 44-45. Hence our FQ are getting smaller. We catch it from all directions.

If you go to any lumber store and check out the wood, you will find a 2x4 is smaller than its measurements. Survey of the education in the world puts the US down on the charts in math. Now we know why.

I bought 2 yards of moda fabric recently and it was only 41 inches wide. I was not happy. And probably will steer clear of Moda from now own. Thank goodness Connecting Threads is still 44 inches wide.

I noticed the same thing. I lined up a few to cut out at the same time and none of them were the same size...18x22. I was using good qualtiy fabric from a quilt shop. Boy was I surprised. I could have seen it from Walmart but not my LQS. Guess it's another way to get us.

Some of those smaller fat quarters are labled "Made in China" and are tightly wrapped around cardboard. I have found others that are just the same but without the label.
However there are often "different" prints in those collections....like Gold overprinting for instance.

Joann's is getting more expensive than the quilt shops. Their FQ are a lot more used to be .99. will have to check size and width of fabric. Sue
