So I have finally come to the realization that I think I would like another machine. I love my machine but.....I dunno maybe I'll just take mine in for surgery. Anyways I am entertaining the idea of getting a new one. lol

Now for the aggravating part. I have a cheap-o Brother XL2600i. The one thing that I LOVE about this machine is I can set the needle in ANY position I so please to do sew with the dial on top. All the newer machines that I have been looking at do not have this option. The needle is set in the LEFT or CENTER position for straight stitch and you can't move it.

Any suggestions on machines that have a changable needle position while sewing a straight stitch?

What price range are you thinking for under 200.00 the Brother 9000 is computerized has many fancy stitches and you can move the needle- has needle down , or for about 150.00 the Brother cs6000i also has all that

I bought a used Pfaff 1475CD for ~ $400 that has that feature. My wife's machine was > $1,000 new (Pfaff 2038 I think) and has it as well.

Both of my electronic machines can move the needle right or left but you don't do it with a dial--you use a slider on one (Singer) and push button on the other (Elna). Are you sure some of the others you've looked at aren't moved differently than your Brother?

Both my Husky 535 and Janome 6600 do it. The Janome was used paid $700. No idea what the Husky cost as it was a gift.

Janome 6600P needle can be moved easily by pressing a button. LED screen shows setting it is set out. Then you can set it in memory or set it so next time you sew it goes back to the last setting you sewed with.
    Wonderful for piecing and quilting.

    Hi,

My Babylocks all have the needle position that is changeable, I have an Ellure, Elegante and a Symphony. I know that models below mine also have that feature. I love my machines.

Go to several dealers and let them know your price range and your "must haves." Then do some "test driving" and see which one feels good to you! Good luck shopping!

I have a $400 Janome (Magnolia 7330 - Love it!) and you can set the needle in any position right to left with the +/- buttons. Have you been going to sewing machine dealers and asking for this feature? I'm surprised it is not on most mid-priced machines and up.
